  • During your travels, have you ever found a product you love but can't get at home

When we were in Aruba several years ago, I got a cold and had to visit the local pharmacy to search out a remedy. I use homeopathics at home, and was hoping to find something like what I used at home.

I picked up a bottle of a homeopathic remedy that was fantastic...it really kicked the cold out fast. So, before I went home I bought a couple of bottles (about 100 tablets per bottle).

This product cannot be bought here. I wish I could find it, but it doesn't seem to exist in any form.

The same thing with some of the food products we have come upon, in Aruba and in Italy. Many are far superior to what our local stores sell.

How about you....is there something that you discovered along your travels that you wish you could get here in the U.S.?
Life is short, live it with this awareness.

Mega Giant Pineapples from believe it or not PR. These babies were huge but you could only get them at the airport.

In St. Maarten there's a rosemary and black olive cracker that we used with our cheese/crackers and wine happy hours. I cannot find them anywhere.

In Greece there is an ice cream that is very, very white (more so than conventional vanilla) and has just a touch of mint. It is of course full fat and the flavoring is made from mastic which come from the island of Chios...

Even being full fat the ice cream is delicate. It is sold under several name but
Kaimaki is the one that comes to mind.

Jacob's Cream Crackers from the U.K. They're inexpensive, ordinary crackers over there, but over here you can only find them in fancy gourmet shops, and they're fabulously expensive and usually stale. I remember in the 1990s, my DH's aunt brought a whole extra suitcase on her London vacation so she could fill it with Jacob's Cream Crackers on the way home.

For a while we had a big "international" grocery store that carried import Jacob's Cream Crackers in a big tin. They had them once and then never again....

Also, McVitie's Digestives with chocolate on one side. These are, again, just ordinary plain good cookies over there, but here they're pricey delicacies. Some big grocery stores here have started carrying similar cookies, but the McVitie's are the best.

Not really. There are a lot of products from Mexico that we like but they are readily available here in the Mexican markets.

Clotted cream. It's just as well that I can't get it here.

On the flipside, I travelled to London last month for work and prior to the trip many of my UK-based co-workers begged me to bring Reese's peanut butter cups Best $10 I ever spent as they were more co-operative than usual as each day I was able to get a bit more out of them by telling them if they helped me out with ______ I'd bring in another bag tomorrow.......

I'll have to check the Mexican stores now that there are a few of them hereabouts, but Golden nuts, con limon are the greatest. Some now even call them "Tony's Golden Nuts" since I promote them so highly.

In 1984 I found a beautiful brown skinned girl in Martinique I spent 3 days with. I couldn't put her in my suitcase and knew I would never find another woman like her in nyc

Now that must have been a nice trip buff.

I think I would have to say some of the foods. We ate at a seafood festival at the fairgrounds at St. Augustine that was such a selection of wonderful flavors that I will never see again.

Also, found some spices/seasonings by a vendor there. All local made and sold, so I won't get replacements on thoses either.

I think Trader Joes has a similar cracker - check it out.
                            And Amazon.com

I am hoping that instead of stuffing her in the suitcase, you married her...
