Would you buy a new Toyota Camry now?

DD got rear ended and it's looking as though we have to buy another car.
(everyone is fine apart from the car)

We have been loyal Toyota owners since 1985, Camrys and Corollas.

Given all the recent hoopla, would you consider buying a Camry now?(other choices may include Hyundai Sonata or Honda Accord . I haven't gone to see anything yet and know nothing about either of them apart from being similarly sized and Hyundai's warranty. )

Yes. I think the cars are still of reasonable quality, and you'll get a very good deal.

We r buying a toyota prius hybrid as DHs job is moving and he needs to access the HOV lane. I asked him if he was concerned and he said he was not. If anything they are triple checking them before they come off the line now

Yes. In fact we were just looking at cars for dd and Toyota is one of the brands we're considering. Toyota was having great deals on the Prius in our area and the salesperson told us honestly it's because they're in trouble.

I did...but it was just before all the hoopla...by about a month. Same thing-DS totalled my other Camry.

When I bought mine-I somehow ended up with an actual Japanese model. The Manager was really excited for me-I'm ignorant-I didn't know why. I researched and found out that the models actually made in Japan are considered higher quality.

That said-most of the recall stuff specifically says if you VIN starts with J (Japanese models)...you aren't included. I did finally receive one about the floor mats and pedal but when we took it in-the floor mat issue was fine and they shaved my pedal anyway.

I'm not sure how I would have felt if the stories had broke before I made my purchase-but here we are-I still love the car and expect the same longevity as my previous Toyotas.

Personally, I think it's a jab at union vs. non union made cars. And I think more than just Toyota has had the problem, but it's not being air played by the media. I've heard of some Ford owners (newer models) that have had the same acceleration problems. So yes, I still would consider Toyota if I had bought them in the past and been satisfied. (I might read up on how to stop one of the newer cars if the accelerator sticks, though ).

I wouldn't let the recent recall issues interfere with a purchase. I am a Honda Accord fan, though I am considering a Toyota (Venza) for my next lease.

I read a Yahoo article today about "The worst vehicles" and there were no Toyotas on the list. My DD has a 2008 Camry and still loves it a lot. I've thought about getting one myself if I wasn't so focused on getting atleast 200k miles on my 2002 Civic first. Only 79k to go.....! I don't think I'll divert from Toyota or Honda for quite some time. 120k miles and still no wheel allignment or need for change in the shocks. I can't say that about my old Taurus! Good luck!

I'm not deterred from buying a Toyota, and am leaning towards one. Think I will check out the competition just to see what deals are out there .
Still need to wait for the insurance company to weigh in, but believe the front end is beyond repair.

We have long been owners of Subarus because they last forever. I became a Toyota fan when I purchased my Sienna five years ago. We will need to get a new car for my DH soon and I will definitely be looking at a Toyota. The service at our local Toyota dealership is far better than the Subaru service.

I thought the only Toyota plant that had a union was the recently closed NUMMI plant in Fremont, CA. that made Corollas and Tundras. I think Camrys are made in a non-union plant.

I wouldn't let the recent recall issues interfere with a purchase. I am a Honda Accord fan, though I am considering a Toyota (Venza) for my next lease.

I also love the design of the Venza

We have '95 and '02 Camrys and they are great cars and had minimal issues. Will definitely consider a newer one when the situation warrants.

I meant I think some of the major American brands that are union labor have had the acceleration problems and it's not been brought out. Personally, I think Toyota is being singled out by the media. My niece has had her Ford in the shop for acceleration problems. And we know of two other people that have had problems with newer Fords.

My husband and I drive Buick/GM cars, but my daughter drives a Toyota and loves it.
