  • Overpacking: what things have you brought on a TS trip and never used?

There is always the extra shirts and slacks that my DH brings that he somehow never wears. For me it will usually be a pair of shoes or a jacket/sweater/sweatshirt. On a drive-to location, it was a small air purifier (we had heard the units had a "freshness" problem, which proved not to be true).

Have you overpacked? Often or less frequently?
Life is short, live it with this awareness.

About half of what my wife packs for me never gets worn, About 25% of her things do not get worn.

I am soooo guilty of over packing, although I am getting a whole bunch better at it.

I most definitely bring too many pairs of shoes with me, and often times I bring a number of different bags as well. Truth is I bring too much of everything, and really need to just focus more on daily outfits instead of throwing all kinds of stuff in my suit case.........just in case.

        Clothes, clothes, clothes!
I am taking a 2 week European trip in a few months with lots of train connections and general schlepping - I am determined to bring only what will fit in a 22 inch rolling duffle.
        REALLY!

I am a minimalist and rarely ever travel with more than a carry on. I will say that I often have one extra pair of sandals or shoes and often times an extra "outfit." I have found that you can buy shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste etc anywhere. It may not be your preferred brand, but it still works.

I can remember when I always had a blowdryer in my case, but no more!

My wife packs everything and then some.. It would be funny if I didn't have to lug the suitcases back and forth! It can be frustrating at times, but then someone will say "Boy- I wish I had a ......." and off she'll go. A few minutes of rummaging, and she'll come back smiling!

Lol....I can relate. Of course, my DH isn't so thrilled with me now that we usually have to pay because my suitcase is over the weight limit.

I never pack dh's suitcase and he tells me I can pack as much as I can carry.

My husband is the culprit. We could go camping, and he would pack a suit (in case we get called for a funeral... his words, honest).

I don't know where his mind thinks he is going... he packs 3 bags to my 1 (plus golf clubs).

He gets so p----d when I laugh at him. BUT he carries all, so now I just let him be. Still I wish he would learn to pack light!

Definitely clothes. The only place we go where I don't overpack is Hawaii. We've been so many times that I know what I need, and what I'll wear. I even "underpacked" one trip as it was chillier than usual and I bought a long sleeve t-shirt to wear.

I only bring enough clothes to last 7 days. If I'm there longer I do laundry. Usually two pair of shoes (the ones on my feet and some dress shoes), maybe flip flops and toiletries. And I fit it all into one backpack I can squish under the airplane seat.

One trip to NYC I bought some trinkets and had to mail my dirty laundry home. The postal employee refused to understand why my shipping and return addresses were the same.

Pack for 4 days in a week

We always make sure to get a washer/dryer in the unit (99% of time) and pack enough clothes for 4 days plus what we are wearing. We do laundry after 3 days. Been doing it this way for years.

I have to get better at packing

For us, it used to be clothing. Now we bring only enough to last about 4 days and I do a load or two of laundry. We still bring way too much food with us. Every year I say we'll shop when we get there, but I always think we'll spend less time grocery shopping if we bring food down - NOT!
