We try to pack clothing at least 2 weeks in advance, and then about 5 days in advance I force myself to remove at least 4 items each....that review always leads to a lighter bag and we never miss what we took out.

I don't overpack for myself. But, I DO for our 4 year old, always have. For a 7 day trip I pack myself 3-4 outfits. Her....she gets about 12! I need to scale that down. Just worry she will be too hot or too cold!
The one thing my DH overpacks is his vitamins. One of thoese crazy things that drives me NUTS. He take the whole Warehouse size bottle with him. I can't understand why he can't take 7 out and put in a zip lock or something. He bring the whole 1000 pill bottle.

@margeS: ditto, my DH packs as if he is moving

I don't know where his mind thinks he is going... he packs 3 bags to my 1 (plus golf clubs).
He gets so p----d when I laugh at him. BUT he carries all, so now I just let him be. Still I wish he would learn to pack light!
We go to SXM for 3 weeks each year, been doing this since 1985. My hubby still packs as if it is his first trip there, and he does not know what to expect (dress code is extremely casual).hope this info helps,

I was just thinking about how my DD packs. She seems to think that she'll need several changes of clothes a day, even though I do laundry at least twice during the week. For a one week trip, she'll bring a large suitcase, two large dufflebags and a back pack. One of the dufflebags is filled with shoes (even though she typically only wears one pair plus her flip-flops). Last year she got mad when I made her put back a suitcase that was filled with her favorite stuffed animals (she's not a kid - she's 21 - and she stll managed to sneak three of them into the car). Then there's her favorite pillow and small blanket! Her boyfriend, who's been vacationing with us for several years now, gets everything he needs for the week into his backpack! Now that's the way to pack!
