Our re-booked flights for Sunday were also cancelled. HNo surprise there. Next flights we could get on are for Monday April 26th - a full week later. Doesn't work for us so we simply won't be going to Paris this time.

DH however must try to get there for business. His re-booked flights are for Tuesday. He was able to change his flight yesterday from flying from FL to LAX to CDG (how crazy is that route??!!) to FL to Pittsburg to CDG. Much better. Still have to see if that flight makes it out though.

He went into the office this morning for 3am to match up with Paris time. They are now operating via conference calls to get done what needs to be done. The wheels of business continue to grind.

While I am sorely disappointed to not go, I am somewhat relieved that the final decision has been made. It was very mentally tiring to keep shifting every few hours into "go, no go" mode, let alone the hours and hours on the phone and email to keep trying to re-arrange all the travel parts to see what still worked and what didn't.

I count ourselves lucky though as we were always at home and not stuck in some airport for hours/days. I hope things resolve themselves as quickly as possible and others are also able to get on with their lives.

My friend's Saturday flight from JFK to Paris was cancelled. Fortunately she had trip insurance. But she is sorely disappointed she is missing a long-awaited vacation. Heard on the news this AM that the British Navy is sending warships to bring stranded vacationers home. Hopefully this mess will end soon.

Latest news is the Scottish airports (Glasgow, Edinburgh & Aberdeen) will start operating from 07:00 Tuesday. It is hoped that restriction on England and Wales will be lifted later the same day. Even after that happens there is going to be a huge logistical battle to get all the planes back where they belong and the people too.

It's amazing how disruptive a single volcanic eruption can be. Let's hope the second volcano stays quiet!

We spent 3 extra days in Zurich as a result of the flight disruptions.
Our return trip involved an extra stop at London Heathrow and an additional few hours of travel time, but all in all, things went smoothly and we were grateful to return home last night.
It was interesting seeing how differently people handled the situation. Among those who could afford accommodation (or had insurance to cover it), some spent all day at the airport and on-line trying to change to earlier flights, others used the time to sight-see. In general people were understanding and calm.
