  • Who has the oldest...

In these days of planned obselence our local radio station is running a competition to find the oldest working electric cooker in Ireland .

So I thought it might be fun to do something likewise here .
The longest working electrical appliance we have at home is a "Hoover"... a Nilfisk branded vacuum cleaner which works perfectly after 35 years . But I am sure it's only a "child" ....so would love to hear who can do better....
    Regards to all

Just replaced a working 1962 Fridgidaire (then a GM company) 48yr old dishwasher.

Have a working GE refrigerator/freezer circa 1948 making it 62yr old.

also a 1969 BMW 2800cs with lots of electrics including windows and clock at ~42yr old.

hedge trimmer with a bakalite body that still works, and a toaster from around 1920 that I would be scared to plug in

Hoover must have done something right, as I have an upright that I bought used' in 1972 or 1973. I have been through many other vacumms in the ensuing years, but eventually they poop out. This old Hoover just keeps on working.

I have a Sunbeam Toaster that is 40 years old. MIL gave it to us for our first Christmas. It makes great toast. I stopped using it because the cord started to get hot. Bought a new toaster and hate it. Never toasts evenly.

My washing machine is about 30 years old - a Sears Kenmore.
I am holding onto it as long as I can because they don't make them that big anymore. Even super capacity isn't as big as this one.

I still use my Yamaha speakers that I bought in 1983. Sadly I had to dump my Pioneer receiver circa 1979 (maybe older - I got it "preowned") bc it didnt fit on the shelf, but it was still working. One of these days I am going to resurrect my turntable if I can find a replacement needle/cartridge.

Our dryer is the only one of our original appliances that is still plugging along. We moved into this house in 1997, and it was here then. It's about 40 years old; it wasn't a kid when we arrived.

We also have a GE waffle iron that my MIL loaned us in 1985. It was hers, from about 1955. It still works, but two years ago I finally bought a new, fancy, bigger one. In the beginning, we were hiding the new one when she came over b/c we were afraid MIL would be annoyed that we were so wasteful, buying a new waffle iron when the old one was still perfectly good!
