  • Shingles Vaccine

Has anyone gotten the shingles shot? If so, did your insurance cover the cost? I've been thinking about getting the vaccine for awhile and my Dr. did recommend it. My 88 yr old mom just got shingles and she is miserable. I plan on making an appointment as soon as I get home next week to get the shot. Any pros/cons?

We got ours two years ago. Had a friend who had the left half of his face literally double in size from the first onslaught of the attack. It didn't take us long to get the shot after we saw him.

Insurance did not pay for it for us, but we figured if we had anything remotely like he had, we'd pay considerably more than the cost of the shot not to go through it. Other people I've known who had shingles had reoccurances every so often, too, and they seem not to be a great deal less painful than the first occurance.

I tried, but my Dr. didn't have, couldn't get, vaccine.

Got mine last year and since we had met our deductible, insurance paid for it. The Nurse told me, I would need a booster shot in 5 years. My wife already had hers, but a friend got Shingles and she was so bad that I decided to get it.

Called Aetna and they will cover the cost except for the $25 copay for the Dr's visit.
