  • We did it - Finally vacation home owners!

We settled last Thursday on a place off of Lake Wallenpaupak in the Poconos (PA). The house is small, but a good size for a vacation home - who wants to be cleaning on vacation anyway! Just needs a little cosmetic work, which we will attend to a little at a time. The community is beautiful and quiet. It has 2 pools, 2 beaches, a marina and tennis courts. There are a lot of deer who seem to be quite friendly with the humans around here. We were warned not to keep our garage door open because the deer might walk into the house!
My DH and I spent the weekend cleaning, but there's still much more to do. We are looking forward to many happy years here with our family, friends, and, eventually (hopefully!) grandchildren.
We will continue to use our TS for traditional vacations. But I think that starting next year, we will start to explore places we've never been.

Congratulations! Years ago, before my divorce, I owned a lovely lakefront place in the Finger Lakes region. We went nearly every weekend and often in the months when water had been drained. We used the outhouse, lugged water from home and heated with a small wood stove in the cold weather. Loved the place!!

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

I have a friend who has let me stay at her lakefront home at The Hideout in the Poconos. Each time was very nice and relaxing. I'm sure that you're going to enjoy your time at your new vacation home. Best of luck.

Congratulations! Take the time to enjoy your new home, and don't spend all of your time working.

Congratulations, I wish you many happy years in your new vacation home!

We also travel to Lake Wallenpaupak a few times a year, I love to hike the trails around the lake and Bushkill Falls and we have enjoyed many dinners at Settler's Inn.

                          Congratulations!!

This has certainly been the time to purchase a vacation home (at least I hope so).

I did my Air Force basic training at Sampson AFB, Geneva, NY, in the finger lakes region, and the area is certainly very beautiful, though I could tell by late August that it would be way too cold fin the winter for a Kentucky boy.

Rita and I found a 2-BR, 2-BA 1260 square foot townhouse with the atlantic right across the street (no structures can be built on the beach side of the street) with a tremendous ocean view in Ormond by the Sea, FL. The condo was a Fannie Mae foreclosure and we low-balled an offer in December, thinking the bank would want it off their books before January, and they took us up.

We are still furnishing and decorating, but can stay only a week or so every few months. We are here now, but probably won't be back until December as I have an election Nov 2, and we are then leaving for Arizona, just south of Sedona, on a TS exchange for a week.

Congratulations longtimer and Melvin too! Is your avatar from the east or west coast condo? What ocean do you prefer?

Longtimer, enjoy the beautiful lake and foliage around it as the area sounds beautiful.

                              East or West?

I think it is actually on the gulf side of Florida, though we try to get out to CA at least once each year (which may now change a bit).
I like both the Pacific and the Atlantic, pretty much equally, with the Gulf a distant third, though Panama City Beach is only a 9 and 1/2 hour drive, while Ormond is about 13 hours.

I don't drive straight through to Ormond. We stay one night on the road. I used to have more time than money, but fear that I now have more money than time.
