Just got home from Nantucket. I would like to have stayed but it was fun watching/helping with the prep and I was lucky to get a seat on an early flight this morning. Earl looks like he has calmed down a lot since last night, winds MUCH weaker and not here yet.

btw, Long Island Power Authority has imported an estimated 1600 workers and vast numbers of extra vehicles and equipment to have them on hand "just in case." There is a command center set up in the parking lot at Christopher Morley Park (filled with trucks/equipment) and there are signs on the Long Island Expressway saying "LIPA Exit here."

We pulled in to take a photo and talked to a couple of guys - they came from all over the country. They may not be needed, but they've been paid to be here and seem to be in good spirits (hey, free trip to NY and lots of overtime, why not... )

Glad to read that you made it home safely and that the worst is over for now. I had no idea that hurricanes come on a row where you live. I hope that the next one will get downgraded too.

Our weather is beautiful here but quite cool yet. Only about 70 degrees F but sunny.

This resort was impacted, but I haven't been able to discover to what extent.. It is currently closed and doesn't expect to reopen for a few more days.

Wyndhams Bluebeards BeachClub sustained some damage but has remained open. We have a generator so never lost power. The water osmosis plant was not working but they were able to fill the cisterns with "purchased" water.

Some roof damage and water damage to 3 units.
Sand washed off the beach....but already returning.

An owner reported that most of the island had lost power....

Ahhhh, the track seems to be turning northward instead of continuing west thru Jamaica on to the Caymans.
Seems as if it will pass to the east of Jamaica up thru Cuba.....or unfortunately Haiti once again.
