  • Luau help

    Hi!
Have been to a few luau's myself over the years, but 11/2010 my brother and SIL will be joining us. This is their very first visit to Hawaii. They definitely want to go to a luau, and I want their experience to be the best possible. We will be on both the Big island and Oahu.

Can anyone recommend or share personal favorites?
    Thanks!!

I haven't been to a luau in years, but I understand the "best" on the Big Island is supposed to be the one at the Kona Village.

We enjoyed the Hilton Waikoloa Village luau.

        Royal Luau on Oahu

I agree that the Kona Village Luau is one of the best, but if you're on Oahu, you might try the Royal Luau at the Royal Hawaiian in Waikiki. They're on Monday and Thursday evenings.

We stayed at the King Kamehameha Kona Beach hotel in March, courtesy of Delta Airlines, and watched the preparations for the Luau they have there. At that one, the performers re-enact the landing on the island as part of the Luau performance. I didn't go to the actual luau there, though, because we were scheduled to leave that night. We did find it interesting to talk with the man preparing the imu. He explained to us all that goes into preparing for the luau.

We went to the Royal Kona luau on the Big Island and Germaine's luau on Oahu in April. The Royal Kona had a good show but the food was very mediocre at best. Germaine's had much better food but the show was not as good as the Royal Kona.

            Paradise Cove Ohau

Paradise Cove on Ohau at Ko Olina. You can get a discount coupon from the Entertainment Book. We went on a Monday night. Smaller crowds than on weekends. A nice show as well as other activities.
