Just curious....How much food do you buy when preparing for a snow day?
Have a small seed feeder and a suet cake feeder that hang from a tree in a large picture window. Also scatter some stuff on the ground for those ground birds.
We have cats. They love to watch. Since the snow started (12/26) when the cats are up, they come downstairs and sit on the back of the couch, watching the birds. It's like TV for kitties.
They have two channels, BTV and STV (bird and squirrel).
They know the words/sounds - 'birds' and 'squirrel birds' and come running to the spot like a flash when I yell out to them if they happen to be upstairs.
I really started doing it for the birds when the ground is covered, but there are these additional benefits. I like to see all the varieties as well.
Lol....I know what you mean about the "kitty TV." I also have two cats who love to sit at the window, and watch the birds. I have a bird feeder that I bought two summers ago, (hangs from a tree) but stop using it when one of my neighbors told me that it could attract rats/rodents. Yikes!
I think I'll hang it back up, and feed the birds during the winter months, if nothing else.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.
Since it is just the 2 of us. I don't shop in anticipation of being snowed in. We eat just the same, snow or no snow. As long as I have enough milk for hot chocolate, I'm fine. If I run out, tea can substitute.
PS. Only got about 2 inches instead of the forecast 12 inches.
I must admit I tend not to buy much in the way of extras. I did make sure we had enough milk and eggs for breakfast, but that's about it. I can throw together some matzoh ball/chicken soup if absolutely necessary... It's always hard for me to imagine getting really stuck for very long, and it's never been an issue.
Then again, this is the first year I haven't had an SUV, so maybe I should rethink...
I know....I don't ever imagine myself really getting stuck for long, either. Not really sure why I feel compelled to do so much shopping.
I think it's just another excuse for a food feast.
BTW, my DS didn't get out of bed until after 10. I made him that huge breakfast, and he just asked me what I had lunch. He had a huge breakfast not more than 2 hours ago. Yup, food fest.

Wow, you got lucky!

I never think of getting snowed in for more than a day - just long enough to get shoveled out. Our streets get plowed pretty quickly here. I just make sure I have enough milk. (have to have a lot of tea). Also I make sure to fill up my gas tank. I never want to be stuck because the tankers couldn't make it to the gas station.

Lol....OK, I guess I'm in the minority that believes a snow day is second only to Thanksgiving.

We needed salad fixin's and milk, so we went to the store yesterday. Usually we stay away from the stores the day before a storm. It seems pointless to stock up for a storm, because if the power goes out we don't open the freezer or fridge and head to town for food. Since we have well water, we usually fill up some water jugs. 18" and counting, so we will probably not be going anywhere until Friday if the power stays on. We have a neighbor with a gas stove, so if we can't go anywhere, there is always the potential for a hot meal over there.
You can always use the barbeque! I loved having the wood stove so we never had to worry about being cold if the power went out. No water but we were warm.
I just buy the normal stuff but Kelli really hates the s word. People come in and shop like they're going to be stuck for the winter. We are not prepared for snow in our area . Why pay for a lot of food , because if the power goes out you can loose your food. Kelli has been on tv bagging groceries for the mob when th tv station comes in to show the rush.

Here in Atlanta GA, people stocked up food before this huge storm (4" followed by ice....funny to think of a huge storm as 4" as I grew up in New England). As of yesterday, officials were still trying to get the interstate roads clear. It is a disaster. The head of DOT came on the TV yesterday and said that if we could "just wait until the weekend when it will thaw..."
Fort McPherson has been closed for 3 days; today they have a delayed opening. My husband says he has never seen a post closed for 3 days. He has been doing conference calls from home.

Hey, warm is good!

I've seem some clips on the news from Altanta..... These types of storms have a major impact on areas that do not normally get high snow falls, ice, etc. Very different than New York/New England.
Hoping that you guys get back to normal soon!

Yeah, losing electricity is a problem in many areas, including mine. It hasn't stopped me from shopping tho. Hmmm, maybe I should be buying more non perishable stuff.
I can't even imagine working in a grocery store the day before a big snow storm. I'd probably want to smack some people. Lol. Poor Kelli

Here in my area of eastern PA the stores get absolutely mobbed before a snow storm. You'd think we'll be snowed in for a week. But even when we had a freak blizzard and the governor closed the roads and declared a state of emergency several years ago, most people were out and about within two to three days.
If there's snow in the forecast several days out, I take stock of what I need and shop ahead of time. I also keep several canned soups and other easy-to-fix foods in the pantry. We have a gas stove, so even if we lose power, I can still cook.
I joke that stores should set up tents in the parking lots with prepacked bags of milk, bread and eggs (the sought-after staples) and run a drive through. It would save alot on the lines inside!
BTW - The only real thing I stock up on before a snow store is a few bottles of wine. I figure if I'm not going anywhere, I might as well enjoy myself!
