Just curious....How much food do you buy when preparing for a snow day?

I must admit I went out to the grocery store before the Wed storm in New England. Guess I assume that I will be home for the entire day, so I will have time to make a nice meal. I typically try to make a roast - then always fail. one of these days I will learn how to make a Pot Roast that is flavorful and melts in your mouth like in diners! This time around - I roasted some Cornish Hens.

I also usually make soup - but I have been low carbing since Thanksgiving and non of my favorites are quite acceptable yet.

My snow day tradition is to bake, usually a new recipe. This way we have some kind of warm home baked bread, cake etc. Love it. But better than that, this last storm we totally missed since we are spending 2 months in our home in Bluffton, SC

        Just for laugh....

First morning of our second storm, here in Toronto,
Saturday...feeding the dishwasher and ooops, no dishwasher detergent...
Never thought of it. Had to do 2 loads without it.
        They came out OK....

My husband used to always run to the store to buy fresh batteries and water. Not once did we need that water, but we were prepared!
I love the bird food idea.

Having lived in Rochester, NY and now the Boston area, I don't think we've ever been snowed in for more than 1 day. A couple of weeks ago, before a storm we stopped in the store for one thing - can't remember what it was. The milk aisle was empty! I just had to laugh. One day running low on milk - unthinkable!!

I did, however, fill all my bird feeders before each storm. They can't stock up and the natural sources of food are likely to be covered by snow. Yesterday, they were very hungry and very happy to have my feeders full.
