Golf was great!!! A guy I work with was getting ready to head out when I got there, so we played 22 holes together. There was never any feel of cold or cool. Not bad for January.

We both shot pretty good, too. Strange, for the course condition?!

Single digits in the forecast, though, and our heat pump has shot craps.

          Yesterday we went out boating.

Now, 6 to 12 inches of snow are coming, with the forecaster favoring the heavier end.

          & heat pump is out.

Getting the generator and extra gas ready today.

Oops, now we have been elevated to "The worst ice storm in years,", followed by 12-18 inches of snow, a low of minus 6, and extremely windy.

Now the upper guess is 20 inches and the low temp minus 10.

Yeah, the same storm is headed our way (St. Louis County). Just hoping we don't lose power for too long like the last big ice storm we had a few years back. No generator, fireplace or woodstove.

Everybody here seems to be getting ready: schools and many businesses closed early today. No school planned for Tuesday or Wednesday.

                Everybody stay warm and safe!

In the last week I had cause to go through our accumulated photos, and some were of the bad ice storm in Kansas City before we moved here. We lost around 20 trees. It looked like a war zone.

The ice in the trees looks so pretty in the right sunlight sometimes, and other times its the war zone. Last big ice storm here knocked out power and blocked the road in both directions with trees down across our road. No power for 3 days and no way to get out with the car for half a day.

FEMA Issues Midwest Storm Warning - Kansas City News Story - KMBC Kansas City

So far, what is predicted is:

Start with up to 1 inch of freezing rain/ice.
Add up to 20 inches of snow.
                      Throw in 40 mile-an-hour winds.

Ours kinda fell apart. The beginning was sleet rather than ice or freezing rain, and we have about 6 inches of snow. Cold and wind has set in.

The snow is heavy and our boat dock is in jeopardy. It is leaning toward the lake, the end of the lakeside fingers already under water. The conditions are too nasty and dangerous to do anything about it.

Other areas not far away have it much worse.

Some areas did get 18-20 inches. Interstates are shut down and trucks are just parked in roads.

Like y'all in the NE, there's another one coming in a few days, with winds and minus temps before that.

I don't think it matters that our heat pump is out, cuz it couldn't have kept up with this anyway. We are using the emergency mode and space heaters. So far, electric has stayed on . . . utilities have done extensive clear-cutting of their right-of-ways the last two years.
