I've got another one. My old phone is very old and very cheap. My new phone is not very fancy.

When I port the number and my old phone dies, will my contacts disappear? Or will I still be able to see the numbers, just not dial them? (I feel pretty confident that my contacts will not magically transfer over to the new phone like Pat's, alas.)

When I switched from T-Mobile to Verizon I had ordered my new service online. When my phone arived, I took my old phone with me to the local store. They went into the back room, did something mysterious and magical and moved all the contact info from the old to the new phone. I think they have the software and cables needed to do the job.

Otherwise, your phone numbers/address book would be on your phone and not on your network, so you need to do some work.
