Glad your families are ok...a relative term, I guess, given the trauma they experienced. Just sent off a donation to the Red Cross for relief efforts...have to do something!

I am so happy that your loved ones are okay. It has been a terrible time for all of you, but you can now rest easier, knowing they are safe. We have friends whose daughter teaches English in Tokyo, and they too have heard that she is safe. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Japan.

Our son just called us a few minutes ago. They are fine and the in-laws are OK. They weren't able to reach the in-laws because the infrastructure is all destroyed. The in-laws live in the area that was hardest hit. The in-law's house is on a ridge so was not damaged by the tsunami but all the homes around them were completely destroyed. They have several relatives that are missing and presumed dead as everything was washed away. There is no electricity in that area and it is very cold. They do have food in the house.
The big worry now is the potential problem with radiation from the damaged nuclear power plants. My son is planning on sending our grandkids over to stay with us.John

Craig, I hope your sister gets out soon too. Will the military may help?

John, glad to hear that your grandsons will soon be with you. My neices and nephew landed safely at JFK a few hours ago.
Someone from airport security met them as they got off the plane, helped them through customs, got their baggage with them and brought them right to where my parents were waiting. They are now getting settled in after a very long flight."A man that doesn't spend time with his family, can never be a real man" The Godfather
