neighbors of ours from up north wanted to spend a week with us, and it is the week we are going to orlando. They are not friends, just neighbors. They arrived this afternoon. they are staying here while we are in Orlando. I gave them the keys on a key ring. He took the key off the ring and lost it already. i gave them a map and drew a map. I know they will not be able to find their way anywhere. They are having trouble finding the BEDROOM in the house. My husband drove to the church with them following, i noticed the map is still in the house. i don't know if they will ever make it back. they have no cell phone, no calling card, and no GPS. i don't know how they made it this far. Last year they came and he walked in and couldn't breath. he wouldn't go to the walk in clinic, turned around and drove back to wisconsin in the morning. It turned out he had pneumonia. he is 81. She is the one who has no sense of direction so he can't let her leave without him. Now we are afraid to leave them alone. They have no common sense. My husband is talking about staying home. i say let them go out and try to find their way. I knew they were scatterbrained, but this is too much.

You have done them a favor, but you are not responsible for them. They didn't want to spend the time with you, they wanted a place to stay. You gave them one (very generous I might add). Go to Orlando and have a good time. They do sound flaky, though!

Enjoy your vacation!! If it is the onset of dimentia , maybe they'll begin to realize they are not as sharp as they once were ( unless they 've always been this way!! shaggy

Go to Orlando, enjoy your vacation and remember for next time not to do this. You are not responbsible for them; they are not your parents or even a distant cousin. You have done a kind thing getting the out of the what is still bitter cold; don't do it again!

Why don't you just ask another neighbor (or better yet a rep from your church) to stop by and check on them from time to time.. Perhaps they'll hit it off and you'll be off the hook in more ways than one!

I assume that you have contact information for your guests family, as well as information about their license plate in case they lose their way and the police have to be notified. I'd also recommend that you make a quick call to your insurance agent to make sure your insurance policies are in order.

Sometimes, the nicest thing you can do for someone is to stop being so nice.. Sounds weird, but I think that it is true from time to time..

It's an old people thing, I think. I've noticed my parents starting to do this when we go somewhere in the car with them and a friend of mine, whose parents are 10 years older than mine, said the same thing.

If they're that scatterbrained I'd worry about them burning down the house so yeah, call that insurance company and pay it up to the max.

My nieces and nephews used to do this when they were 6 or 7.

yes, Chris, I feel like I was with a 7 year old.
We have something called care Bears, and they may have to help, but we took them for several drives and he seems to be able to get around. we are in Orlando, ran over a truck tire and did damage tot he bottom of the car, but gas station attendant helped us out so we could get here.

What's far scarier for me , is if they are this scatterbrained why are they still allowed to drive??????
These elderly drivers not having to take driving exams are are out on the roads killing people. At least an Alcoholic driving is only impaired while drunk vs. being impaired all the time like some elderly drivers. Very sad state.

He is not a bad driver, and i don't think she drives much. He seems to be able to follow a map. Why do their kids (5) not give them a prepaid cell phone when they know they are traveling.
