He is not a bad driver, and i don't think she drives much. He seems to be able to follow a map. Why do their kids (5) not give them a prepaid cell phone when they know they are traveling.

Probably because the kids don't believe that the folks could figure out how to use it.

I gave my dad a cell phone about 4 years ago. It's an extra line on our plan. We spent the week he was here visiting going over the phone and making him use it. He huffed and puffed at the time but he carries it all the time in his shirt pocket. I feel better knowing he has it, not even so much when he drives, but when he is outside - in case he fell or had a medical emergency or whatever. He could dial 911 instead of lying out all day waiting for someone to show up by pure luck.

I think it was JLB that posted once about feeling out of sorts about forgetting the phone and having to go back and get it - when we didn't even have them 10 years ago and never gave it a thought. I feel exactly the same way.

What's far scarier for me , is if they are this scatterbrained why are they still allowed to drive??????
These elderly drivers not having to take driving exams are are out on the roads killing people. At least an Alcoholic driving is only impaired while drunk vs. being impaired all the time like some elderly drivers. Very sad state.

My mother kept driving without renewing her license. It got to the point where she would not roll down the window when the cops stopped her.

Then the following pleasant conversation would follow:

Cop on phone: "(Me), we stopped your mother again. She wouldn't roll down the window, then waited for the cop to go back to his car. Then she drove off."

Me: "Yeah."

Cop: "Well, she's your mother. Can't you do something?"

Me: "Well, your the cops. Can't you do something?"

Cop: "No. We can't throw every person who shouldn't be driving, but is, in jail."

The only way to stop older people who shouldn't be driving is to take away the car keys. I hope when the time comes for me to stop driving I willingly get rid of the car so I'm not tempted to drive. I would not be able to live with myself if I knew someone got hurt or died because of my actions while driving.

I figure everything starts going down hill around 50-60yrs old...so that'd be a good time to start doing that here

a neighbor just told me he had to help her close the mailbox, she couldn't do it. I saw so many really bad signs from her.
