I unsubscribed pretty quickly. I'm glad to hear that other locales have better hit rates.
Too many spa offers and health food "deals" but about every fourth or fifth one is something we may use. It isn't great but it can be a deal on occasion. Signing up for place you'll visit is a great tip and if the timing is right you may get a great deal or two.

I would use Restaurant.com more if they would get service here in Canada, specifically Ontario.

As for Google getting in on it now, that is because their attempt to purchase Groupon previously failed.

Don't forget Facebook just launched theirs in select cities as well.

One of our favorite local cafes had a Groupon a while back, and I quickly bought two of them. Now I'm embarrassed to go in and use them! I'm friendly with the owner and he knows me and my family, so I feel funny about going in with a Groupon. I'll do it, mind you, but I feel funny about it.

I feel the same way. We are really good friends with the owner of our favorite restaurant. Now, we have these coupons to redeem. Yuck.

And even if you give them away, they still have your name on them.

I have to say, though, that every time we have redeemed a Groupon or similar, the restaurants and stores have been very gracious about it. Sometimes when you use a coupon, the staff gives you attitude. With Groupons, they actually seem pleased that you're using them. I always try to spend a good bit over the value of the Groupon, and to leave a fabulous tip, because I appreciate that they're pleasant about it.

I would agree. It would seem the whole concept of a restaurant offering a Groupon deal is to gain new customers for repeat business. If anything, you'd think they would be extra good. However, I usually don't tell them about the Groupon deal until checking out.

I never feel bad about using coupons or certificates. Remember, these are businesses and they are probably very cognizent of consumers, and saving money. I have never met a business owner that is not considered about cutting costs, so they should never be surprised when their customers do.

                        Wacky and Boca -

You can simply email groupon and tell them you will be unable to use the groupons after all and would appreciate a credit into your groupon acct. It's is fast, easy and no hassle.

On the other hand, the restaurant already has the list with your names on it so it's likely your owner friends already know you bought one - they might even ask you about it.

Don't worry. I'll overcome my shyness about it. But I'll probably end up getting twice as much stuff as I would have normally!

This place has the most fabulous pain au chocolate--the owner was telling me that a group of French women come in once a week to have their pain au chocolate together. I was like, "There are enough French women in our town to have a morning pain au chocolate kaffeeklatsch?" Anyway, I want to race over and beat the French ladies to the pains au chocolate one morning, and that would easily blow out one of my Groupons.

The really good sushi restaurant around the corner from me is on Groupon this morning.

Get it! Then you can feel the same mix of emotions that Boca and I are having.
