  • Horrible news in our community

Our community has been struggling with this event for the past two weeks. A woman moved to our community in january, and later hired a contractor to some remodeling. She was last seen on April 11. Her son asked police to do a wellness check, but no one was there. A neighbor called the police after she saw people in her villa, doing drugs. The police arrived, arrested the 4 people in her villa (the contractor and three friends). They were using her car, using her home, had her dog, her cell phone, and said oh she went away for a few days. this was April 15.
Tonight they announced that her body was found in charlotte County, buried in a shallow grave. The contractor and another man have been arrested. Police believe they forced her to write them 20 thousand dollars worth of checks, then murdered her. Being brain surgeons, they then went to party in her home and use her car, thinking noone would notice.
when they interviewed her son, he said they had thought they found a beautiful and safe community for their mother, who had recently lost her husband.

OMG, that's horrible. I am so sorry for all involved. I cannot even imagine what the son is feeling and how unsafe those in the neighborhood now feel.

I had read about this OY - and knew it would not have a good ending - my thoughts are with you and all your neighbors as you try to heal as a community - very frightening stuff!

          Wow!

There is a couple not far from here that has just disappeared, poof, with the husband's mother living right behind them. All they are saying on the news is that the police have collected more than 200 pieces of evidence from their home.

Another (80-year old) missionary Christian couple was just found murdered in their home.

          Lotta that going around.

Oh how awful. My heart goes out to her son and to your community. It shakes your world when something awful happens so close to home...

Somehow I didn't think this would have a happy ending. Very sorry about this.

Wow! This is scary and sad.

They obviously thought she had no family and they had no conscience.

just read on line that the second man was accused in a murder in 2005 but was acquitted.

                    UGH, that is really horrible.

The lack of conscience is matched only by the lack of brain matter.

This must really be upsetting to the community. I'm glad at least they were stupid enough to get caught so you don't have to worry about them being on the loose.

How awful that this can happen in a place that we feel is a safe haven for retirement. This must be so awful for her son and family as well as the people in her community.

We are in the Dells for 10 days on a holiday.
Thought it was a safe community.
                        Where is this world going.
What an awful way to go....
My heart is with the son.

This is a very ugly story. I"m glad the contractor and friends were so stupid - as Glitter said - this way no worries about them being on the loose.

It is hard to believe that such terrible things can happen in such small communities. Always so much harder, because every knows everyone and word travels fast.
