well, she isn't quite new any more. In the middle of things I somehow ended up adopting a half grown cat or she adopted me.
Sometime towards what should have been the end of winter here in NY, I was asked to foster and make adoption friendly, a half grown cat of about 6 months. She was very shy but truly hasn't a mean bone in her body. One of those it will take weeks cats but if it doesn't work we'll put her back with the colony.
and it did.
The weather kept being horrendous and her little paw pads were already cracked from walking on ice and snow. She already had all her shots and was spayed and her ear notched to be turned back out with her colony but the weather stayed wicked.
She won my heart the day she rolled over on her back, her eyes softened and she reached out to touch my face, ever so gently. Oh h-e-double toothpicks! What is one more little cat? One that would be mine, not my son's a lap cat to boot!
Now the issue: My son's cat, Cougar, is a BEAST! DS17 can do anything to that cat but he isn't really a "pet me" animal unless he initiates. Actually he's quite moody BUT he doesn't like to share me and he occasionally will corner this sweet half grown black cat and beat the snot out of her! Particularly if she has been on my lap purring her little heart out. We're not talking blood and gore but a lot of unpleasantness. And yet she tries SO HARD to befriend him.
Shiloh plays with her. Cougar likes Shiloh and always has.
Any hints? I've had her in with us since March now. She is still quite shy and takes a long time to get over any absence but when she does it's "all in". Adoptive families don't want that. They want "forward" animals. So I must keep her; I just need to get King Kitty Poop into line about what is acceptable. Cornering her when he is in a mood is NOT. I think she "gets" that she is kitty #3 and is fine with her assignment.
Approximate time on how long this will take?
