  • My excitement from Last Week

I guess as long as I keep checking in every few minutes to monitor the database I might as well share a fun story... OK, no fun involved but a story just the same. This is from Last Wednesday so 8-days ago now!

Well, I have not been in a major accident in a lot of years and while I really didn't like my car I sure was not ready to buy a new one. Well, the car is a complete loss and today we finally got the info and paperwork to get reimbursed so hopefully sometime next week we will have money to work on a replacement.

We were sitting still at a turn lane and an Army Tractor with triaxle trailer came from the cross road to our right and made a left turn to go the way we had just come. What the driver said was that the steering locked up and he could not get the tractor to straighten out but the cab came around behind the car and the trailer run down the side of the car and shoved us over a full lane. Note in the pics that follow that we were sitting at the stop line a good 15-yards forward of where we were stopped and to the LEFT of the white line on the left of the car and the trailer dragged us this far!

Here is a map with obligatory MS Paint

The scariest was the fact that my daughter was with me in the back seat and the door jammed. When I first got out I went around to that side to open the door and it was stuck and I yanked the door so hard I ripped the door handle off the car!

The guy that owned the GMC Yukon and myself climbed in the car and with a couple swift kicks and hard punches we got the door open to get my daughter out.

The GMC Yukon was actually behind the car beside us at the stop line and we we got drug into that truck and frankly had we not got caught by the Yukon we might have kept going with the trailer!

The truck went another full 70-yards before he finally stopped!

We have no major injuries, just lots and lots of cuts from all the glass and my daughter really was a bloody mess by the time we got her out of there but we managed to get all the bleeding stopped by the time the ambulance even arrived as I am certified in First Aid and I keep a good sized kit in my car at all times.

My poor daughter was terrified being trapped in the car but she is seeming better although for most of the past week she was waking us up in the middle of the night!

I have way more pics then anybody in their right mind would want to look through but they are posted at the following link for those that really lack a life!

Anyways, that was our excitement of last week. I have a little Chevy Cruse as a rental and glad I went that small so I know better then to even look at replacements that small. Way too small for us!

How scary. Luckily no one had serious injuries. I assume the white paint on the TT tires are from your car. Looks like luck was on your side.

Yea, we actually got hit by the cab first and I got to look up and see the trailer tires coming at us. I had just enough time to say "Oh Shit!"

Here is the front of the monster that got us...

I was looking through the photos again and we were so lucky nobody was in the back seat behind me. The following pics are too large to embed but note that rear corner of the roof was tore out by the tool boxes on the side of that trailer...

With the force of that impact, I could see a head up next to that window and oh shit would that have been bad! Luckily my 2-year old was not in his car seat too as you can see in the pics above!

Oh yea, I was trying to syphon the gas out of the car (with no luck) as I had just put something like $54 worth of gas in the car just before the crash - as in we only went 200-yards. It was 103-degrees and humid too which made cleaning the car out fun too.

            OMG

Your little car took excellent care of you and your daughter against those big brutes. You sure had some luck on your side. Sorry to repeat myself, but OMG.

So glad you are both ok.

It was a 2001 Chevy Impala. We got a fair replacement value through the insurance but we hope to see the check early next week so we can go buy a replacement of some sort.

Don't forget to list the $54 of gas on your claim. Not Kidding.

Wow. You should send the pictures to Chevrolet. It's really a great ad for the car!
