  • A great camp (and charity)

(I also posted this on TUG as I'm just so happy about this place....)

My daughter will be attending the Hole in the Wall Camp for a week this summer:

    http://www.holeinthewallgang.org/

It is a camp for kids with illnesses. Today we went to visit the camp, and I have to say that it is absolutely beautiful and amazing. (You can see pictures of the facilities at the website.) They seem to be prepared to deal with just about anything, and the kids we saw there all looked they were having tremendous fun. She was nervous as we toured the camp (they drove us around in a golf cart as they are fully equipped to deal with kids that have stamina issue) but she relaxed a bit after two clowns pulled up beside us in their own funky cart, to stop and say hello.

My daughter has never had a "real camp" experience, but thanks to this place, she will be given the opportunity to do so this summer.

If any of you are looking for a good charity, I would consider donating to this organization, which was started by Paul Newman. Thanks to donations, the camp is free for all those who attend.

She won't be there until August, and I'll let you know how it turns out.

    Sharon,

I am glad to hear that your daughter will be attending camp this summer. It looks like a beautiful and fun place to spend a week. I am sure that she will have a blast. Maybe you'll even get to see Paul Newman.....

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

We have a simular camp here in NC that was started by the Petty family. I think it is called Victory Junction. It has a full medical staff of nurses and a full time doctor. They are prepared to take care of the daily needs of the children in a setting that does not look like a medical facility. One of my former students attended this past year. He is in a wheelchair and has several medical issues. He said it was great.

        Sharon,

The camp looks/sounds great! I have always admired Paul Newman for his charitable efforts. Congratulations on what will undoubtedly be a fantastic experience for your daughter.
