Trying to decide if DS should register - they ask for a lot of info, but it seems like a good way to centralize applications if it's legit.

Anyone used it? Success? No? Stay away?

My daughter used it several years ago when she was looking at colleges and scholarships. It provided her (and me) plenty of information about colleges, majors, admission letters, fees and possible scholarship opportunities to apply for on both local and national levels. Many of the scholarships are offered by major corporations but have criteria that limit who might qualify to even apply for the scholarship, and this site lets you know if you should apply. It also had helpful information about how to fill in an application and deadlines. If you're looking for help, it doesn't hurt to look there. And it's free.

Thanks, Jeanne. I know it's free, was just concerned about the amount of personal info they request. Sounds like it's an easier way of keeping on top of scholarship apps though.

I don't have any personal experience with this site..we may have looked at it and the others like Fastweb..I think my son still gets emails from that one.

I just wanted to add that we had our best luck with local scholarships. Service clubs, credit unions, senior organizations, memorial scholarships, local foundations, garden clubs even...it was a lot of work tracking down which ones he could qualify for, applying, writing essays, keeping track of deadlines..in fact, I never want to do it again!!

But, it did pay off. My son received 4 scholarships. 5 if you count the one he got this year. It isn't big money like national scholarships..but it's something AND there is less competition.

Does your student have a college/career center at their HS? That's a good place to start. Ours had a list of local participants and we just kinda went from there...and started checking other HS websites in the area to look at their lists and compare..in case ours had left something off.
