I am a big user of Groupon. I like many of the deals offered, love their responsive customer service policy, etc.
Very recently I noticed that they no longer allow questions to be immediately posted. Questions have to be reviewed by a moderator. In additon, no question seems to get posted until there is a corresponding answer. Which seems fine until there is a long lag time between someone (me) posting a question and the question actually getting posted. What happened to it, I wonder? So I called the merchant directly and got an answer. Not a big deal, I often call the merchants for clarification. Merchant gave me the info and checked the Groupon website while I was talking to her - she said there was a fair number of outstanding questions.
The particular question I had was regarding what fee would be charged for upgrading the groupon purchased, which was stated in prior Q&As could be done. Others began asking the same question (what was the charge) and the 'answer' was 'the merchant wants you to call them for this info'. So I decided to post the answer I received from the merchant. The 'answer' was fairly straightforward but result was that if you upgraded, savings from 40% to 17% or even 15% depending on exactly what you did. While not a killer savings, it was good enough for me and I bought the groupon.
But Groupon not only did not accept my post (it's still not posted and it's the next day), but they sent me an email saying that I could edit (cancel) my purchase if I wanted too. I didn't request this in any shape or form and I can only assume it's in response to my unposted post by a moderator (the email does say it's from a moderator). Wow. In the recent past people did post additional information they had about the deal, not in a question format. And sometimes is was very openly questioning why the offer was even being made as it wasn't much of a deal at all. I found this type of post helpful as it made me check even more carefully into some deals before deciding to buy or not. Now apparently this is not allowed, especially if the info is deemed to be detrimental or unfavorable.
I hope this is not the beginning of the end of my love affair with groupon.
