It appears Allstate thinks only the roof of the main house gets rebuilt. The sunroom window walls too, of course.

No engineer has looked under the house. I imagine our contractor will do that and report the findings. Allstate can then look, but no rebuttal is due if our guy finds no negatives.

Anyway, we are held up in an apartment... 3 month lease against Allstate. At this rate we may die here. LOL

While I rant, I hold my head up. I know the day will be a great one even if we are hurting.

Today I was told Allstate has extended the lease 2 months. So I assume there will be more rebuilt, or they are being stubborn.

While Smiling I Whine (Tongue in Cheek)

Someone said, "What a mess we are putting up with."

The mess was not knowing what was in the boxes. Packers marked everything LR, K, BR1, DR, BA, etc.
We had to go through every box to find WANTED things for temporary living. I guess we're at fault for not marking the boxes ourselves. We just couldn't be everywhere at once. I do think we were and still are in shock.

About the time you think life's turmoil has settled to cosiness, watch out!

There were 7 packing. The only logic I find for example, I don't find towels in LR boxes. There were 20 boxes labeled LR. PC stuff (3 setups including games, desks of paperwork and modules of every kind) were included in the LR boxes. Well, that identifies where they were located.

Still missing the wire-unit for my wireless mouse. Have the mouse, but now it's truly wireless.

We feel fortunate that hurricanes give plenty enough days of warning. Why folks ride them out is beyond reason.

                Finally

Four months since Irene and we're getting some aid. We will start putting things back in order this week.

Mildew is bad on everything. How does that get corrected?... Replace all wall and ceiling covering is what we think.

All cabinets, doors, trim boards, floors, railings... are stained woodgrain. You can't imagine what nature has done to all that in 4 months.

We hate the thought of painting over the woodgrain of anything, as that would ruin the look of the house interior.

Oh well, stripper and sanders are made for something. A lot of stuff will be so labor intensive, that new will replace it.

We hopefully will have it livable by mid-March.

I appreciate all the "Sorrys" and offers of your places to stay. That has been touching!

Lawren, thank you for your kindness.

We were with family for Thanksgiving and have decided to stay in the area for Christmas. Had our confirmations in Florida changed to Historic Powhatan Plantation. Williamsburg is cozy neat, dressed for this season.

Wish us well in our endeavers.

May God bless you all this season.

                Merry Christmas,
                Robert and Caroll

Robert, I have not looked at this thread until last week but did not know what to say. Robert I am so sorry to hear and see what you have gone threw. I knew it has been rough but the new year is coming along with a newly rebuilt home.

You certainly have a lot of work on your plate Robert. This method of mould/mildrew removal may seem like too much effort (given the sheer quantity of work you have to do) but I'll pass it on anyway.

As I understand it, most mould-removal products and bleaches whiten the mould rather than kill the spores that allow mould to grow. A better option is to use oil of cloves which kills mould spores.

Use 1/4 teaspoon of oil of cloves in a 1 litre (.26 US gallons) spray pack of water to tackle mould on walls and ceilings.

(the oil of cloves is readily available from pharmacies here, I use this one

Wishing you good luck with your endeavours.

                      Robert & Caroll,
So glad to hear that things are finally beginning to look up. The light at the end of the tunnel had to have been such a long and winding road for you. I can't imagine going through everything that you have. (And having maintained your sanity ~ not to mention your sense of humor ~ is such a plus!! ) Glad to hear that your holidays are working out, and that your New Year looks bright!!

Insurance should pay for the mold and mildew. Slowly the gears are grinding, looking up. It will be nice to have a "new" house. I guess this is one of the valleys that you have to travel thru in life, now you're on the incline of a meadow. shaggy
