  • Best Tidewater, VA to Coastal Maine route

Sitting here after unpacking. Getting bored with no house to remodel.
Thinking maybe a two week trip to Coastal Maine could take place starting 14 October.

Can't go now due to several doc appointments.

Thought we could maybe see colors on the way up and back.
Any suggestions on good routes to take? We don't need snow on the roads!

Snow is rather unlikely in October and even if- it would be of a short longevity. For a route, I would take 95n to I-87e in NY/NJ then I-90e to MA getting off at I-495n and then back on I-95n/e in NH. Once in Maine take the first exit that goes to route 1e and you can follow that all the way to Canada on the coast. If you object is the fall colors, you may be too late for ME. As for the rest of New England, the fall colors this year are rather muted as a result of excessive rainfall and the hurricane. As an example- I have 4 maples in the yard and none of them have color other than green or yellow. One has lost half or more of it's leaves already.

Are you looking to take 3-4 days going up and back and stay for a week or straight up and back with a two week stay in Maine or 2-3 days here and there totalling 14 days?

Driving through Massachusetts on the way back to Albany and drive down the Hudson River has been suggested by Big Matt.

I wonder if the NY State Thruway is one you stop to pay every 5 minutes.
Can the colors of the Hudson be seen from there?

We could go up that way on Oct 16 and come back at the end of Oct.

Coastal Maine while in color is our goal. Seeing the country is also desired. If in color, so much the better. We have done the coast as far as Brunswick, ME and across MA & VT and Canada into MI.

This time we plan to stop over near Allentown, PA for 2 nights on 14 Oct. Then run to Brunswick, ME. Plan to hold up there a week to run the coast, staying a night near the national park... if we find something we can afford. Hopefully we won't be too late.

Have a couple of banked weeks and 370k Wyndam WEEK points. Any GREAT TSs we shouldn't pass up in New Egland this time of year? We realize it may be cool, but warmth is something the Almighty has control of.

We can be gone a whole month till mid-Nov if we find it real interesting.

No doctoring that month. We can no longer ski but could watch.

We have run the PA Turnpike several times during color season and the Blue Ridge. Hoping to see more vivid reds and oranges as we remember from upstate Michigan years ago.
