A brilliant man, snuffed out at 56. Although I have never embraced their products Apple was truly visionary.

Yes, but if you look at pictures from that day, he looked very thin and frail. At that time I suspected he did not have much time left.

I think this was probably the reason he retired. As someone else said, when he did not look well at the time. He will certainly be a huge loss, and hope that Apple can survive without him. If any one recalls, when he was let go from the company he founded it went in the tanks. He returned, and has seen huge improvements over the years.

Not really. He did step down from the CEO position (Tim Cook replaced him) but was still a chairman.

Trading on AAPL stock was halted for a while this morning. When it resumed for pre-trading hours, it dropped about 10 points.

Can you imagine what else he could have envisioned for everyone to enjoy? I loved the little Mac Plus when it first came out and certainly the iPhone too.
