  • Another new Fave at Trader Joe's

It's been some time since we had a TJ's thread but I needed to share a new favorite:

Thai VegetaThai Vegetable Kao Soible Kao Soi

While traveling in northern Thailand in the city of Chiang Mai, our buyer developed a taste for Kao Soi (cow-soy), a traditional noodles and savory broth dish. After tasting as many iterations of this classic street-cart fare as he could find, he worked diligently with a supplier in Thailand to craft our very own vegetarian version. Trader Joe's authentic, imported Thai Vegetable Kao Soi starts with a coconut- and curry- infused broth that's loaded with noodles and big chunks of vegetables like carrots, cauliflower, broccoli and snow peas. It heats from frozen in mere minutes, and is accompanied by a packet of crispy noodles (best added just before serving). Each 12.6 ounce package is $2.99.

Stocking up on this one for the winter months. Got a little spicey kick to it and not so much curry to make me sick. I don't handle that well. Would be easy to add shrimp or chicken to oomph this up from lunch to dinner too.

chriskre they are finally opening a store on the gulfcoast of FL.....another roadblock getting removed.

A couple of weeks ago we discovered the pork buns. Excellent when steamed; I don't think they would come out well in a microwave.

The meat lasagne they've been featuring is also good.

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

Yeah if my TJs had that I might not get to my personal favorite. The frozen foods aisle. Although the cream of soups are back now and they are over in perishables...

Mmmmm. I worked for years in the areas abutting NYC Chinatown and loved pork buns! cha shu bai which is phonetic and probably not at all accurate or even close! but when I said that the gwai lo got pork buns. Will have to scan and see if they are there in my TJs.

They're in the freezer section, should be with all of the other frozen Asian items.

BTW - we love the frozen potstickers. Great appetizers. I also add two or three of them to a bowl of ramen, along with a couple of squirts of rooster sauce, to make an excellent noodle soup.

              DS is the potsticker person.

The buns are they white or brown when they are done? I understand and don't mind if they need to be steamed to eat but I preferred the baked ones when I got them.

If I have to go trek through Chinatown to get these now I won't like you very much. Who knows if the place on the Bowery is even there any more.

The other chinatown thing was Maria's bakery. Don't know if they still exist but man o man they could do a napolean.

These are white, with the paper on the bottom. Very similar to what I used to buy from sidewalk vendors in downtown Berkeley and Oakland Chinatown when we lived in that area.

OMG this sounds quite awesome. I love Thai food and when I went to California I bought lots of thai style salads from TJ's that were great. Made nice pool side lunches.

And I did see that they were opening in Naples. I was actually looking to see if they were in Orlando since I went earlier this month but no dice yet. Of course they got something against us foreigners down in Miami. Hopefully soon we'll get a TJ's. We have Whole Foods, Fresh Market and Norman Brothers but TJ's is so much cheaper and I think just as good as the other hoity toity markets we have here near me.
