  • Do you peel potatoes toward you or away from you?

My mother was telling me about this new potato peeler she got that she thinks is wonderful. However, when I saw it I realized it would not work for me because I peel potatoes pushing the peeler away from me. My mother pulls the peeler toward her. I think my way is faster and much more efficient.

    How do you peel potatoes?
(most of the time I buy the red-skinned ones and don't peel but today I have 5 lbs. of sweet potatoes, and 10 lbs. of white, and they are done, thank goodness).

    AWAY!

and toward the plastic bag I have in the sink to discard the peels....learned THAT one a long time ago. Having a clogged sink on a holiday is no bueno.

I've always pulled towards me, and onto a paper towel. Jerry always peeled away from him. I don't know if there is a right and wrong, I think it is more like the toilet paper thing...

Always away from me. Onto a paper towel or plastic bag for disposal.

Ya know, I had to think about this one. I peel toward me and into eithere a plastic bag that is underneath my potato and hands or on to a paper towel to toss when done.

Depends on the peeler. The one I have now is designed to peel towards me, but I was taught to peel away because it's less chance to cut yourself. I think it's faster to peel "away", but I like my new peeler and since there are usually only 2 of us for dinner, it really doesn't matter.

Towards (and with something under it) -- and I can't imagine being able to peel away from me or how one way is faster than the other. Also didn't know there are 2 kinds of potato peelers...live and learn

I don't like peeling potatoes at the best of times, but when I do it is always away for safety sake. I happened to gash myself once doing it towards when the potatoe peeler slipped.

Depends on the potato. Usually away and straight into the basket for compost, but when I get those odd shaped ones I use whichever way gets them peeled.

                        Towards. It's less messy.

Away. I have a peeler that I really like. It is off-set at an angle. Somehow seems to make things easier.

I have both designs. So with the traditional one I peel away from me onto a paper towel and the new Swedish design, toward me.

I peel towards me. Not sure if my peeler would peel away from me. I'll have to try it.
