I was in the dollar store the other day and saw a sign that said they would be open on Thanksgiving. How much money can a dollar store make to make it worth keeping check out people from their family on a holiday?

Shopped Friday late afternoon 'by accident'. We were on vacation and I wanted a few more pairs of my new favorite jeans and had already hit my local stores. So decided to go to the stores in the vacation area and that worked really well as we were already very close due to a planned activity.

Also swung into Dillard's as it was right there and picked up 2 pairs of slacks and a shirt (all on sale plus a coupon good for $$ off another purchase) for DH. Dillard's was (to me) surprisingly busy and their racks were complete messes, which is unusual for them.

You couldn't pay me enough to go to a WalMart or some such.

This was the first Black Friday we have spent in the U.S. I was so looking forward to getting some great deals, but fate intervened. One of the pipes in our recently purchased mobile home burst, and water was pouring underneath the house (luckily not inside). I spent the day fetching and carrying for DD. At least it's fixed now. Oh well, there's always next year.

            Guilty as charged

I've always worked retail so have never been able to do anything remotely like holiday shopping. BB & HHGreg opened at midnight & I needed a new tv so drove out there and people were lined up around the building at both places so went home. Walmart was packed as well. Went home.

Kelli had to go into work at 10:am so took her and then hit Stein Mart where I got Monkey & Mater new dog beds. Next, AC Moore where I got the crayola jewely maker half off. Then I went to the MALL Yikes.

Today we drove to Raleigh to go to the big craft show, it was a a bust. Too commercial. Stopped at the QVC outlet store on the way home where I got a great deal on bras. TMI.

Tomorrow I'm going to a real craft show in Greensboro. I'm almost done shopping !!! YAY

No shopping for me. I look at shopping on Black Friday with about the same interest as attending a Mexican timeshare presentation. There is just nothing they can offer that is worth my time and tranquility.

              I did buy a Vitamix 5200 from Amazon.com. I do all my shopping on-line.

I showed restraint online but did buy a fax for $9.99 after rebate from Staples. Now did I need another fax? NO! But I just couldn't resist the price. Thankfully that was the only impulse buy.

I bought a few things before Thanksgiving and more on-line, so there wasn't much on my list. I always take three hours personal leave on Black Friday to shop, then go to work. This year, my list was short, so I slept until my normal 4AM and thought I'd see how it looked. Everything was deserted when I got to town around 6AM. I couldn't believe it. Plenty of parking spaces. No lines at the registers. Most of the doorbusters were gone, but I picked up the one thing I had wanted most at Kohls (and it was sold out online at 4AM). I went to six or seven stores and made it to work at 8:15A, 45 minutes before the end of my leave. Easiest black Friday ever for me.

I started shopping online a few years ago....that is what I continue to do. No bother to find a parking space or people pushing me....

Hubby has Black Friday shopping down to a science. Never gets caught in mob scenes; always gets what he went there for, but he talks the kids out of some deals because he isn't willing to stand in line that long or isn't willing to get up early enough to make it likely they'll get it. Usually hits Staples, I think it is, and gets good deals on computers or other stuff for work most years. Some of the kids consider shopping early Black Friday morning a tradition, but they're not after the deals so much as the box of doughnuts their dad gets them for breakfast.

I don't go anywhere unless we're visiting the in-laws and one of my SILs invites me along somewhere in the early afternoon, when things have always been pretty quiet. We were home this year so never got off my front porch.

My dad used to live in Fairfield Glade and would walk the golf course every night. He didn't do it for the golfballs but would pick up the ones he ran across and had bins and bins of sorted and cleaned golfballs in his garage. Don't think he ever sold them but once in a while he found one with a name or some other symbol he recognized on it and would return it, and he also used to give them away. Particularly the pink ones.
