  • Tradition New Years Meal

Now that we've finished Christmas, do you have a New Years tradition meal? If so, what is it?

Ours is pork, sauerkraut and black eyed peas (which I only usually taste 1).

    So whats yours?

Black-eyed peas and cornbread. If I get ambitious, a clock-faced cheesecake.

Corn Beef and Cabbage now. When I was at my parents home, it was Navy Beans and Corn Bread.

When I was growing up, it was usually a ham.
I don't make anything special on New Year's Day.

Oliebollen for New Yea'rs Eve in the Netherlands. New Year's Eve parties are celebrated at home with family and close friends. This is how it used to be and the oliebollen were delicious but there is so much more to eat and drink.

Remembering this makes me homesick now.

                  Seafood and salad.

Christmas is with family and New Year is with friends. Fortunately old English family traditions of serving hot, hearty Christmas fare do not transfer to New Year celebrations. This year it is predicted to be 102oF.

I don't really have any traditional New Year's Eve/Day dinner.

We usually go out on New Year's Eve to either a party, or dinner with family, or friends.

I do make dinner on New Year's Day, but it changes each year. I usually ask around, and see what everyone is in the mood for.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

When we moved here from Germany, we learned Chinese is traditional on New Year's Eve. We placed our order yesterday.

We don't do anything special. When I was growing up my grandmother made an entire thanksgiving dinner with turkey, stuffing, potatoes, cranberry, salad, etc.
