  • Yet another Trader Joe's thread. Some new faves

my nearest TJ's is about 20 minutes away in NJ. Went last weekend just to stock on some old favorites and try some new ones.

The canned turkey chili is killer! I may give up cooking my own.

The spinach & cheese filo pie (for those of us not married to Billy Mach's wife) also worth buying.

The Lobster Bisque is still a huge fave.

The eggplant parm I would have returned if I lived closer.

We don't have a TJ in South Florida.

Supposedly they were opening on in Naples.
I guess I can drive the two hours if I really want something.
      I could stock up.

      Naples - Opening February 10th!
      10600 Tamiami Trail North
      Naples, FL 34108
      Trading Hours: 8 am – 9 pm

Standbys for us continue to be:
        • Chicken gyozu (potstickers)
        • mandarin orange chicken
        • ahi
        • rosemary bread
        • salsa
        • various simmer sauces
        • mixed shellfish
        • whatever cheese I'm in the mood to buy at the moment

Also they have a lot of wines that are cheap enough that I can take a chance on them. Right now I'm finishing off a $5.95 bottle of priorat that is quite tasty. I think their Chilean SB for $3.49 is a great buy - crisp, sharp, bright, dry. A wonderful everyday SB if you like that style of SB.

        ******

I've done a good job of cutting down on the treats, like mochi (it's still hard for me to pass on by the strawberry mochi). That was starting to get out of hand. Though every now and then I buy something and slip it into the Kay's treat drawer in the nightstand on her side of the bed. She never says anything, but when I check a month or so later it's gone so I know it was found and enjoyed.

Whenever I go in, there's always lots of stuff I would like to try, but it's so easy to get out of control - I go in thinking I'm only going to get a couple of things, then I walk out with a $75 receipt in hand.

        Dangerous place.

Many of yours are also favorites of mine. I do not ever linger in frozen desert section and my nearest local does not sell wine. A saving grace although my bill is never low at TJs.

Only $75? I admire your willpower.

I don't get the licorice thing either.

And yeah definitely make him transfer you near Naples then I can come visit you on my TJ runs.

So how come you don't have any 2 buck chuck at your TJ's? I thought they all sold that stuff.

It didn't used to be $75. A bit of willpower has brought it down to that level.

But I found that after walking in thinking I'm going to get a loaf of bread, some potstickers, and a couple of bottle of wine, and emerging with three bags and $150 in charges, I started to get some discipline.

Around here 2-buck was always 3-buck chuck ($2.99). But last time I was in I noticed that the price was now $2.49.

Whatever ----- I use some of it for cooking, but that's about it.

A couple of weeks ago I made some fondue, using the Charles Shaw SB. After I was done there was about one-quarter of the bottle left over.

I poured what was left into two glasses, then opened a bottle of the $3.49 Trader Joe's Vinas Chilenas SB, and Kay and I tried them side by side.

The difference was pretty large - for $1 more the improvement in quality was dramatic. I continue to keep a couple of bottle of the Charles Shaw SB and Merlot around for cooking wines. But as drinking wines for a couple of dollars more I can get stuff that I like a lot more.

I haven't been there in a while, so I'm due.....If you have a doggie, their Charlee Bear organic dog treats are very good. My dog loves them!

Tell me more tell me more!

Funny, was just going to start a thread asking what are your TJ favorites.
Tell me more please - we're TJ newbies....

FINALLY, there are now two "near me" - one 35 minutes (no wine) and one 45 minutes (wine) Guess which one we go to?

We've been twice, second time yesterday for some cheese, pate, dips, crackers and wine. (They were out of the crackers I wanted! )

I have noticed that my stores are smaller than those in Cali and the things I ate and loved there are just not carried in my little NJ stores.

Would love more recommendations on your favorites...

                      The lucky one

I have both TJ and Starbucks less than 5 minutes from my house. My son works at the Bux and several times a weeks stops at TJ'S for us. We also have a great Produce market right next store to the TJ'S. Life is good.

I buy it when ever and where ever I see it. I believe the best one is Kobolish which I am sure I spelt it wrong, I have a bag so I will fix it later. Believe it or not a cheap brand that is easy to find is sold by Duane Reade under the name DeLish which it is.

The NP at my cardiologist's office told me that licorice raises your blood pressure.
I'm not supposed to eat it. Luckily I don't like it.

My latest obsession is the low fat kettle corn. It comes as six individual sized bags. Only 3 WW points per bag.
