  • Thank you Glitter & Joy for giving me back yogurt!

As a long time modified low carb fan I thought yogurt was gone forever.

Take a look at a flavored yoplait light and you'll see why. Sure it's a 100 calories but 6 oz contains 19grams of carbs! (If you do an Atkin's 2 week induction you are only allowed 20g carbs each day!)

So I mourned my occasional yogurt fix.

Then Glitter bought some flavored Greek Yogurt and I thought I died and went to heaven. Think and rich and ridiculously yummy, but I read the nutritional label.

Joy taught me the ultimate cheat last month!

Buy a quart of plain 0% Chobani (6oz = 7g carbs) and a jar of your favorite Polaner All Fruit Sugar Free with Fiber (1 TBSP = 3g carbs). Viola 10g carbs! I can have yogurt again without the guilt!

    Thank you both!!!!

PS This stuff can also replace sour cream 16cals/oz as opposed to 60cals/oz sour cream!

Fage has one that comes with honey on the side. YUM. But probably not as carb-friendly as the sugar free Polaner All Fruit, which tastes just fine.

Great solution, Lawren and Joy, yay!!!

Now I am craving greek yogurt.

I love Greek Yogurt but I'm sure it's not the low carb kind.

          I don't think so Frank.

            Wow! You're easy.

A little yogurt goes a long way.

I figured it would at least take a 6-pack and a pack of Marlboros.

I would rather eat organic honey than eat those sugar free junk that they put in place for sugar. Think about what is better in the long run

I buy a tub of Mountain (something) yogurt at Costco for less than $4. It comes out to about 13.5g carbs for 6 oz. I eat it plain. Last vacation, the DW bought Dannon yogurt. I thought it was too sweet, so I guess mine is not sweet, fine with me. Although, the fruit idea does sound good.

When in season I do use fresh berries in my plain (get the fat free) Chobani yogurt, but the sugar fee jam does the trick too. I like either Smucker's or Polanders no sugar...which ever is on sale LOL.

Greek yogurt is thicker and creamier in my opinion that Dannon, Stonefield, Alexrod or many of the others. Okios is good too, but its plain I think has more carbs and less protein than Chiobani.

If you mix it with fresh fruit and sprinkle a little wheat germ on it, its almost like dessert!

You are so right - there is absolutely no comparison. The store shelves speak for themselves - when the stuff first came out to the masses, it took up a tiny portion of the yogurt shelves. Now it takes up a LOT more real estate

Glitter, which brand of Greek yogurt do you buy and which flavor do you prefer?

Lisa, not Glitter, but I prefer Chobani Greek, if I can't get that I will eat Okios. I like the plain, non fat and then mix my own "stuff" in it. My DH (who is Greek) likes the cherry, strawberry or blueberry.

If you really want to get "wild" try this:

In a blender pour the following:
1/2 cup Chobani non fat plain yogurt
1/2 cup Blue Diamond unsweetened Almond Milk
1 scoop of protein powder (you favorite flavor) I usually use strawberry
                            1/2 small banana
                            1/2 c sliced strawberries
                            6 ice cubes
                            Blend

You have a fantastic breakfast for less than 300 calories, very little sugar and about 30 grams of protein, and don't forget the fiber!

And my fave is Fage. I like the peach best, but the fruit is on the side so you can really just buy plain and mix with whatever jam or preserves you like, as Joy suggested, if you aren't taking it on the run like I often do.

If you buy the Fage, be sure to check the label - the full on regular is really really rich - too much for me. The 2% is yummy but 0% is also really good and much more diet conscious!
