  • Keratin hair treatment

I have well behaved hair about 8 months out of the year. A soft wave to it but generally straight if it isn't raining or snowing. Then summer comes or I go to where summer is and POOF Medusa Hair! Frizz/no shine/ nearly unmanageable.

My stylist has talked me into a Keratin treatment for next Wednesday. The one where you can't tie in a ponytail or wash for 72 hours.

Anyone here that's had one? What did you think? What were your results? How long did it last?

As you know my hair is rather straight so no need here, but my personal trainer has think, unruly hair that gets frizzy at the hint of humidity. She had here's done a few weeks ago and it looks AMAZING!

She has said it was the best thing she had done for herself in YEARS.

And yes, the 72 hour one is what she had done.

I haven't done it but it's very popular here in icky humid Miami.
Lots of friends have done it and it really is nice.

I have made peace with my frizzy hair and just use Garnier Fructris curl control. It's about the cheapest and best I've found aside from doing the Keratin.

Do you guys have Dominican salons up there?
Silly question as I'm sure you do, but they specialize in taming the frizzies better than anyone out there and they're usually pretty cheap.

DD wants to know what the product is. Some are good; some are not, and not only won't work as well but can damage hair - and you.
They've come out with some new products/ new formulas for older brands that are much safer and effective --No formaldehyde.

Says the right product on the right type of hair will last 3-6 months and thinks you are a good candidate for keratin as long as I described your hair properly ... (legal caveat, lol)

Oh yes and she said you should ask to see the stylist's certificate to do keratin treatments. She said she knows this is weird and that you won't ask.

I got quite an education today. Among many other things learned how improper procedures, improper certification and inadequate ventiliation can cost the salon fines and licenses.

That is my understanding of the procedure also. A friend became quite unwell during and after the treatment and wasn't happy with the length of time the results lasted. I'd have no hesitation in asking for certification from the stylist, it isn't a cheap procedure so I'd expect a professional service.

No Frank, it's a different procedure. I'm really impressed that you not only listen to your wifes beauty salon discussions but also remember them.

She did tell what they use but darned if I remember. She said I would be there for 2.5 hours and could not wash or ponytail for 72 hours.

If I care for my hair correctly it should last 6 months and really would only need to be done once a year. Think summer.

Now you know I will ask to see cert when I go there Wednesday morning.

The reason I know was, one time she could not get her appointment to get it done. So guess who ended up doing it as good as the salon . Yep it was me. She was able to get the pro chemicals threw my uncle that went to the beauty supply to buy. I ended up doing it 2 or 3 times with the same bottles. The cost to buy it was about under $60 at the time to do it those 3 times. She used to pay about $120 to do it once. I have no idea if she has done it again at the salon all I know I is I quit.

DD said they all can't be washed for 72 hrs.
                        Just make sure no formadelhyde.

Is it Chi? She likes that one; they removed formaldehyde from all theirs.
