and you'd know that because .....

We used to feed our beautiful wooly Huskey BARF - Biologically Appropriate Raw Food. Like Euell Gibbons (64), she died of natural causes at age 13.5(94.5).

Yes, this is also a type of BARF. And they are "pushing" it - giving out free samples so the doggies get hooked! We caved and bought 8 lbs today. But I am a little concerned because the frozen "nuggets" have frost on them - like perhaps they were thawed and refrozen, or just frozen for too long? I'm going to write the company; it would seem to defeat the purpose (anti-bacterially speaking) if they've been accidentally thawed in transit or by the store and then refrozen.

13.5 is a darn good long time for a big dog. And she was gorgeous!!!

Don't worry about the frost. Sometimes that happens when the raw goes into the freezer before it is completely cool.

Also, dogs are scavengers. Their bodies are made to deal with all types of gross bacteria that would kill us humans. Remember, they can eat a decaying rat or rabbit, for example, and be none the worse for it.

I'll let you know how it goes by the time we're done "transitioning," should be within the next week at the rate they're going. I held back a little and gave it to them after they'd licked their bowls clean, and they seemed quite content with that. I'm already seeing improvement in their output and they're still getting 70% kibble... though I had been giving them a little canned food to coat the kibble with, which may have been part of the problem.

You only have the one little dog, right?

Thanks, I feel better. Btw, one of the packages was completely mislabeled. It said it was an 8 lb bag of chicken flavored 8 oz patties, but it was a 4 lb bag of 1 oz nuggets. So now they're getting Mystery BARF. I only paid for 4 lbs at least.

She was a beautiful and gentle member of the family, a gift from my B-I-L who had the litter.

Obviously, not my doing, a gift from B-I-L, but we kept her groomed and loved.
Now we've gone smaller with designer mutts.
