  • Playing the tourist

Today DH and I took the train into the city (NYC). We took the subway down to the South Street Seaport and took a Circle Line Harbor Cruise, then had a few $5 frozen drinks at the seaport, and then went to the South Street Museum.
Then we went uptown for a little stroll in Central Park and then appetizers and drinks at the Trump Tower Bar.
Living so close, we take NYC for granted and never do the stuff that makes it famous. We just shoot in to see a show or attend an event. I decided that we would have to do more "touristy" stuff to renew our appreciation of the greatest city in the world.

Good for you!! I love those days. We take so much for granted living in the area, but there really are so many fun things to do!! It was a nice day, today, too, not too terribly hot. The boat rides around the city are great, and there's quite a variety to choose from. How was the Trump Tower bar?

We only did one "tourist at home" day this summer so far - we went to Governor's Island on DS' recommendation - a really unexpected treasure over there - beautiful, relaxing, and fun! Free ferry from downtown.

I'll have to try Governor's Island.

The Trump Bar is small and cozy, with some tables and some leather couches and chairs. I liked the background music but you could still have a nice conversation. I had a Living Social deal where we got 4 cocktails and 2 appetizers or small plates for $35. It was a steal! But the drinks are pricey - $16 to $18 each. DH had the shrimp cocktail which was delicious, but he had to order the Trump burger because he was hungry after eating it.

I'm glad you played tourist. I love it too. If I lived in Orlando like I used to I'd probably be at Disney or other attractions once a week. shaggy

We bought a living Social cruise to do with Friends. It is only good for Tuesday nights and we only have 1 Tuesday night to use it or we lose it. I so hope we get to do the cruise this coming week. My wife has been wanting to play Tourist for a while now.

Glad you had a great time. We love Manhattan so can appreciate you playing tourist.

We play tourist all the time where we live, spending 2-3 nights in downtown San Diego, same thing for LA and Palm Springs, and adjoining areas. If we lived in or near New York City, we would certainly play tourist a lot. It is great living in an area with a lot of attractions, restaurants, etc.

Greg and I need to do that here on Cape Cod and also in Boston. We haven't place the Boston Tourist in YEARS...it's time!

Your day sounded awesome. I have been to the Trump Bar for drinks and snacks with a friend who lives in the Tower. It was pricey, but the drinks were good, as was the food and Ed (our friend) paid.....

We played tourist in a nearby town several months ago. We had a really fun time. We had a segway deal and the day I booked happened to also have a nearby arts festival. Last year we couldn't go away for DH's birthday so I booked us a weekend in Miami (not 2 hours south) and we also had a great time and did lots of stuff that a tourist would do. I used to live in NYC and I now regret that I didn't do alot more tourist stuff on a regular basis. I let work and 'regular life' suck up too much of my time.
