OK. Some of you know I am having extensive work done to my house.

I have a 17 year old indoor cat.

Yesterday night my son and I got in pretty late, maybe 10:30PM.

DH said he thought my cat had a mustache but NO he had found and was playing with a field mouse. DH took it away and put it out, but the poor thing died almost immediately.

It is not the right time of year for the critters to come into the house so I blame the noise and construction going on.

Kinda glad DH took it as I'm pretty certain I would have found a "gift" on my pillow. BLEH!

My son is calling poor TAZcat a murderer and it is hard to explain that it is just his nature as a cat.

    Lawren,

That's a great story. A couple of years ago we did a major remodel on our home. We moved down the street about a 1/2 block to live. We have 2 cats, sisters.

We brought both with us to the new rent house. One would stay at the rent house. The other (black cat) would go back to the old house, which had workers and major construction for 6 months. The only problem was that there was a major street the cat had to cross to go back and forth. She would come down to the rent house and eat and go back home. Fortunately, she remained safe while we at the rent house.

When we finally finished and moved back home, the black cat was waiting for us like "it's about time you moved back!" I just love animals.

The natural hunt instinct will almost always come into play with cats. The exception can be made by raising a kitten with mice-or at least that is the assertion of the experts.
I recall a time when I was living alone with 2 Siamese cats and when I came home at night and turned on the lights mice were seen scampering around and the cats had no apparent interest. I sat them down and read them the riot act, telling them if they didn't take care of the mice problem they would go hungry. The next night I came home to find 2 cats sitting proudly in the kitchen with a dead mouse in front of each. Sometimes nature needs a little push.
