  • Got our tree early this year!!!

I was so excited to get a tree for our new place, I couldn't wait. I wanted a bigger one, but am glad I took the one I loved on the street - there's only about an inch from the top to the ceiling! The apt smells so yummy, I just hope it's not half dead by christmas... got a Fraser Fir so should do better than most, but still it's early for our hot apartment. Easiest tree purchase ever... pick it out across the street, then Pascal (the tree guy from Montreal) comes to deliver it and set it up. I wish he'd stick around til after New Years to clean it up...

Is this early for you northerners?
We put ours up before Thanksgiving.

Oh there's nothing like the smell of a Christmas tree! Sounds like a painless process for you. Enjoy it in good health.

If we put live trees up that early, they would be dead, dropping needles all over, and a HUGE fire hazard by the time Christmas arrived. Do you Floridians get real trees by you?

I keep saying I'm going to move to "faux" but I just can't bring myself to do it.
The stores had all their xmas aisles packed after Halloween this year. I usually wait until mid-month to put the tree up, and the last couple of years I barely got the tree up before xmas eve. I had planned a "trimming" for the 9th, figuring I'd get a tree on the 8th, but we just couldn't resist this one tree tonight.... might've been easier if I'd realized that almost all of my trimmings appear to have been "misplaced" in the move

          Of course we do.
You can buy a tree pretty much on every corner here in Miami after Thanksgiving.
Home Depot, Publix, and at any church in town in the tree lots.
I don't put up a tree anymore because my cats knock all the ornaments off and then topple it all over.

We have had the same tree for 29 years, Bought it at Harrows. I think we are going to get 1 more year out of it and then take it to the curb. It is just to big to store. Not to mention putting it together is a pain since it is very full.

I remember that with Taffy and my little foster kittens so we stopped doing a tree too. I used to have a recipe and it was very sticky but it worked to keep the tree fresh for many weeks and it kept smelling nice for a long time too.

It had water, bleach and Karo syrup. It came in a bottle. That is the sticky stuff but I don't remember how much of each the recipe called for. Try to Google it. Make sure to set the base on a plastic sheet and then hide it with something else. It was a good spot for presents and hide the red cover a little with colorful presents.

PS. This may be a similar recipe. I just quickly looked.

Have fun decorating! It's exciting to put up your first tree, decorate your apartment & have friends & family over to celebrate. Enjoy!

Some people say that using hot water & a little bleach helps to keep the tree alive.

I'm having trouble in finding a stand for my fake tree that holds water. The old one is all rusted out.

Bing, try this one. Festival color and won't rust:

It seems it would take a long time to plug all of the holes !

I broke down and ordered a fake this year. My main reason is real ones do not come pre-lit and it takes hours to put on lights and creates a mega mess taking them off.

I thought this one was way cool as it is made to be up against a wall.

I stopped buying real trees when I got sick of the kids complaining and crying every year "pick any one - pick any one - it's freezing out here!" The following year I got an artificial and they all cried about that too. Can't win LOL

I went over to the dark side as well - but enjoy it more because I can leave it up as long as I like.
House all decorated and it makes me HAPPY....

Every time I looked at the fake ones I found I only like the expensive ones (I know you're shocked to hear that ), so went ahead and spent the $50 or so on the real thing. But NYC prices have me rethinking this again... although we are a lot shorter on storage space!!
