Mine is a combo travel/life tree - my mother gave my two kids an ornament every year plus we almost always pick up something when we vacation.

My problem is my tree has 'shrunk' and is only 4 feet tall - I think after Christmas I will get another one from Amazon and have two next year - I still have my older 7 foot tree but I do not have the ambition to set it up...too much work.

The trees come with lights attached? What happens as they go out? Are they individually replaceable? Do the rest stay on if one isn't working (unlike the cheapo strings)?

Not sure as it is new this year. Year before last we had a big clean-up and got rid of out artificial tree. We had to put on lights and attach all branches. This one is in 3 pieces with lights attached. Only problem is I'm stuck with multi-color (other choice was white).

ps. Has been many years since had a "real" tree. Like the looks and smell, but not the mess.

Our tree holds ornaments from so many sources.I guess you could classify it as a mishmash tree. Santa has put one decoration in everyone's stocking since our kids were small. They hang on the tree. I still put up decorations that the kids made when they were small (they are now 28 and 33). One of my favourites is one our DS made when he was 5 years old. He was in Beavers at the time.

For those of you who aren't familiar with Beavers, it is like Cubs and Scouts, but for 5-6 year olds. I was his leader at the time and we made decorations using a photo of each boy dressed in his uniform. We rolled out bakers dough, laid the photo inside, crimped the edges, and baked them (the decorations, not the boys LOL).

We also have a collection of nutcrackers that range in size from 3 inches to 24 inches tall.

My cats used to eat tinsel. That was a pleasure. Chasing a cat dragging tinsel out his butt. Immediate switch to wide, wired ribbons.

Not this year but usually I have a tree for homemade ornaments..A tree for memory and regular ornaments ie: dogs that died, people who passed, babies etc..,another tree for breast cancer it is pink of course...then I have a more elegant tree with just white, silver and gold ornaments...this year one small tree and the breast cancer tree, way too tired for all this and no spirit..LOL.
