For the record, I know what the problem is but I need to do more to keep this from happening again. I am working on getting Frank to move the site to a new home and a newer server with more power and space would help with these issues

This site is just too big for the server we have been on for so long so we are due for a server upgrade and move. I will be working on this more for the next week or so to try to prevent the server from crashing until Frank finds the site a new home. It's a memory issue associated with the size of our databases that keep the site running.

Thanks, Ken. Sounds expensive. Folks, don't forget to donate to the site, click on Become a Site Contributor at the top of the page!!!

            Would deleting old posts help?

Suggestion: I would delete all posts starting from 01/01/2010- 12/31/2011 and all videoes & pictures from those dates (to save space on your server). Suggestion only

Yes, I am also working on cleaning up some of the extra files on the server and getting a backup again. Once that is done, I may have the hosting company move where the databases are run off of on the server as aparently the databases are in a subdirectory on the server and that subdirectory has a memory limit that is lower then had the databases been run directly on root. I need to talk with the support team at the hosting company to get a better grasp of the risks/benifits but regardless we need a bigger server. We have been on my dedicated server for about 5-7 years now and it's just not cutting edge anymore and this site has grown a ton since then. Time to retire my old server...

Videos and photos are not the problem. Those are not saved in the database, it's the threads, posts, etc that have made the database outgrow what we have as a server. Our actual file usage is minor compared to our use of the SQL database.

I am okay with deleting post prior to 1/1/2010 but to get rid of the last 2 out of 3 year posts - no way!
