  • We are down to Gutters and Shutters!

    My house looks great!

Of course I was expecting a week's worth of work and ended up with two due to a couple of rain days and the holiday but it had been worth it!

I love the colors and even the "monstrous" lamp I bought on the internet which was twice the size of what was originally on my front porch looks perfectly fine.

Hopefully we will be D-O-N-E on Saturday. It is getting to be a bit wearing living in a fishbowl. I have to finish the front door, paint the garage door and scrape and paint the wrought iron on the front porch.

My house looks young and beautiful again. I think she would go out dancing if she could.

I will up load a before and after picture when they are finished.

You must have a great feeling of satisfaction now you have almost accomplished this major job, Lawren. It looks very nice and with the new windows too.

I like the neutral color of your home that I saw in your photos and the beautiful big Japanese maple tree will compliment the new looks of your home too.

Let's hope you are done for a while and can focus on some vacation trips instead.

Well, the tree that fell on our home during the storm here in VA, a couple weeks ago, is being removed at this moment.

Boy do I feel lucky after reading your post.

Lauren: I have been following your home reno saga with much interest. We are doing renovations to our home, also. We removed carpet, and installed/refinished wood flooring throughout the home; installed a new furnance; and replaced windows. The storm hit 3 days after the new windows were installed.

When the tree fell onto our home, My first thought: "Dang, I hope the windows do not buckle." (Our lives were in danger, and my thoughts were on windows. Sick, I know.)
        hope this info helps,

It must be a great feeling, Lawren! Enjoy the freedom of having your home back into your own control, and looking lovely.

JLB, sounds like you live in Arizona...local workers here have no problem ignoring phone calls, making empty promises, not showing up when expected....some of the business people here are so bad, I don't know how they keep afloat.

Deede, sounds like you have had some adventures! Were the renovations badly affected by the tree falling? I realize it fell on your home, but I am hoping that no one was hurt and that the damage is quickly repairable.
Life is short, live it with this awareness.

Actually we've gotten three bids on the roof, but they are so far over what the insurance adjusted it at that I am waiting for one more that is on the way, just so I have something to do battle with State Farm with. I got a roof bid yesterday, but it is $600 higher than one that is in the mail.

As far as the rest of the damage, the one bid we have is about double the insurance adjustment, so I am awaiting two more. Both contractors have been here but have not given estimates.

The first contractor to come out still has not sent an estimate, so I figure they are out of the picture.

In the same time, three neighbering houses have gotten new roofs, and a fourth one has had the shingles delivered. One of them has been resided also, with new shutters. From what I've heard, all of that has been covered fully by insurance.

              Thanks so much Emmy!

I am no fan of the whites wheats and grays that proliferate thru our neighborhood. One of my son's friends did their house in a slightly darker shade a few years ago and I fell in love with it.

The navy blue shutters went up today ( with 3 windows on back order ) as did the gutters. So we are in the "little things" phase now. They are coming back on Thursday to roll out all the insulation we discovered in the attics. Fat lot of good they do sitting in rolls huh? And THEN we leave for Brigantine Beach on Friday for a well deserved week on the Jersey Shore courtesy of RCI.

Deede I have a feeling if that's a sickness I will share it. So did the windows make it?
