I haven't been, but I've read that Dublin is one of the most walkable cities in Europe, which is a very good thing to me. Also, they have the pubs, Guinness, and great people!

        St John USVI

        I'm so predictable.

The following are tied for second place:

Laguna Beach CA, the greek islands, San Francisco to Monterey, the coast of Maine, Sanibel Island, Grand Cayman,

Heading for Maui and Big Island and I'm sure to add some more favorites.

Lol......I wish I were in St John right now! I need me some serious sun!

Haven't been to the Greek Islands, but I'm sure that they are lovely. Your other picks are all great as well. I had a blast in Laguna Beach, one of my favorites!

I know that Santori, Crete, Mykonos, Corfu & Rhodes are some of the very popular Greek Islands, but the Attica region looks cool, too!

The last place I visited..... I seem to love every place I go

But if I have to list - it's Paris, London for big city life; St John, Kauai for the total opposite.

So far the best and most relaxing place for me has been at Lawrence Welk Resort in Escondido with my family. I've said this many times and still don't know why but when I walk in the door I am able to relax. If I knew why, I would spend the money and have my house changed to make me feel the same way. This is after going on aprox. 12 cruises all over the world, staying in aprox. 100 different timeshares and visiting aprox 30 states. Wish I knew why the relaxing feeling is only in the one place?

(This was in response to Angela's comment about Botswana, but I screwed up the reply with quote thing)

Yes, the sunsets! And the trees and landscape. It is the only horizon I've found as compelling as the ocean. Quite amazing.

I know I am. My mom's favorite place on earth is the Appalachians (she fell in love with them in North Carolina but was perfectly happy with Tennessee), while my dad much prefers the Colorado Rockies, so they can't ever both live where they most love. Hubby doesn't care much where he lives; when he was younger he didn't like to look at cornfields and he has always liked a short commute to work, but those are his only requirements.

We actually live in Indiana, for various reasons, meaning we're an easy drive from the Sunset Coast, which was planned, but also an easy drive from Chicago (my favorite city), Toledo (which has my favorite art museum), Indy (the kid's favorite Children's Museum) and Detroit (not anybody's favorite anything, but there are fun things to do there). Plus it turns out that I am crazy about Witch's Gulch, in Wisconsin Dells (I like to slip in the back way and wander down after one boat tour group leaves, wait out the next one, and wander back after they're gone), which is quite close, of course. The Appalachians and Niagara Falls are both what we consider an easy day's drive away, the Finger Lakes region (haven't gotten there, but Watkins Glen looks to be Witch's Gulch writ large) not much further, as well as many other cities, museums, etc. And that's just the States -- Toronto's closer than Niagara, and Montreal only a bit further from us than NYC. Since hubby's main criteria for vacations are, "within driving distance" and "variety," turns out this is the ideal place for him, too! So we feel very lucky to live where we do.

There is a certain trend there.

Actually, if we didn't live near a place where I can get a regular fix of watching the sun on a watery horizon, I suspect my list would be very similar.

                      Hi Angie,
They all speak English. The area is heavenly, and the lake is SO beautiful, surrounded by the mountains! We are actually about the only Americans there in the summer, not sure about winter. In the summer it's just Austrians, and people from all over the Middle East, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Abu Daubi, Bahrain, etc., so it is really a neat mix of the cultures, like East meets West. They are all trying to escape the heat in their countries.
We spend a LOT of time in Bavaria in the summer, and in Hohenschwangau I have my favorite hotel we return to and they always have my favorite room ready for us . The staff all call me by my first name and run from all directions to greet and hug me when I check in! Every day they have treats for me in my room when I come in from the days wanderings. It is with great sadness I leave every year. Truly my paradise on earth!
On check out day as we are driving away and the staff is seeing us off I am already dreaming of next year

I feel the same way as you. This is why we bought timeshares so we could return to these places every year but I love the big cities too like New York City and in Europe.

I felt happiest mooring off Catalina Island and taking my little pooch ashore. She was so excited and loved the dinghy ride and hop ashore. People were always commenting that she pranced like a little horse. Oh, these happy memories....

Fun thread! If I have to choose, it's Kauai's North Shore...so picture perfect! On the other hand, DH and I both fell in love with St John USVI recently. Will be there first time in Aug for a week (we have been there several times as day -trips from St Thomas but have never spent an entire week there).

All of Northern Michigan (Lower and Upper Peninsula) but particularly around the Traverse City area. I Like Toronto. I have visited Los Angeles a couple times and know that is not someplace I could live...
