uh-oh I think the coffee maker is dying

Let's start with the fact I am not a coffee maker snob. Mr Coffee has been Mr Reliable for more years than I can count. This morning my coffee rapidly became lukewarm. By the time the last cup was consumed it had to be put in the microwave to heat up. This indicates the heating element is either dead or well on it's way. I didn't think to touch the plate this morning but I will tomorrow or maybe I will run a pot of water through later today to check it out.

I always set up my coffee, grind, etc. prior to bed so I can just punch that brew button whenever I get up. The only time I use the timer feature is if I have a flight at god's hour in the morning.

I prefer a 12 cup drip model. 90% of the time the whole pot is consumed withing the 2 hour heating period and I don't need anymore.

Which coffee maker would you recommend? Would be nice if available at BBB but I'm sure all the major stores are doing the Presidents Day sale thing this weekend. (How thoughtful to give up the ghost when I can get a bargain)

Oh too bad! You can't live without a well functioning coffee maker!

I have nothing to recommend tho. I've been using the Keurig, K-Cup coffee maker for a number of years now, and I love it! I'm actually on my second model.

When my 70's Norelco bit the dust, with a bit of assistance from DW, we wound up with an inexpensive one with a reservoir and a dispenser so you can take a bit while it is still brewing.

We can't recall what kind, cuz, as Romney might say, it's at one of our other places.

Mine went a little over a year ago. I was kinda happy cause I always wanted to get a coffee maker with a Burr Grinder attached that is fully automatic. When we set it for the morning you hear and smell the Fresh coffee being ground. Only draw back is it requires more cleaning.

Darn, I just checked and they seem to have finally gotten wise and stopped offering $150 worth of free stuff for signing up.

If you are going to BBB, I'd stay away from the allure of the models with "thermal" pots. They don't have heating elements and I've yet to try one that actually keeps the coffee hotter than lukewarm. I also don't like not being to see how much coffee is left.

Keurig is also not for a full pot kinda girl, imo.

why not just stick with a good ole' Mr.Coffee for $29?

I have a Cuisinart Brew Central that I have had for years. Love it and will be heartbroken wihen it finally dies. Mine is stainless but it is also availble in colors. BBB sells it.

I also like the Cuisinart Brew Central and have had 2 of them. Just last week hubby bought a Wolfgang Puck coffeemaker at SAM's for $30. He thought that our Cuisinart seemed to need de-scaling more often lately so he thought we needed a new one. The new one works fine and we are using the Cuisinart carafe with it as we like how it pours without drips. Anyway, Costco has a nice Cuisinart for about $60 that I was planning to buy. It is a 14 cup model. SAM's also has a Cuisinart, but it is $100, but does have a hot water dispenser if you like tea.

I know that the Kuerig is all the rage, but either hubby or I refresh the coffee in our cups when one is about finished and do not want to make another cup everytime we want a refill. Sometimes I only want just a little more, not a full cup.

We still use Mr. Coffee as it is simple and makes good coffee. We had a little wooden fake antique coffee grinder but it finally gave up the ghost. I bought an electric coffee grinder and agree that cleaning it is one big hassle. All I needed to do with the wooden one was shake it out and it smelled so good of coffee beans. Every once in a while I would wipe it out with a dry cloth but only to make it look sparkling clean.

I love my Farberware electric percolator! The only drawback for you, Lawren, is that I don't think there's a model made that has a timer. But mine (which is about five years old) makes a whole pot very fast, and the coffee is strong and has a nice "clean" taste--I like it better than drip. And they keep the coffee really hot for hours without the cooked taste that you get with the heat pad on a Mr. Coffee.

I'm a Mr. Coffee fan. I've had several over the years. They inexpensive enough that it doesn't bother me to replace them when it's time.
