These photos were taken over the course of last week. As you can see the plaza between the skating rink, and 30 Rock was surrounded by a 6 to 10 inch form to build up a concrete platform. All of those blue rectangular things are Styrofoam insulation blocks used in home construction. Plastic sheeting was laid down, then 1/4 inch masonite board, then 4 to 8 inches of Styrofoam boards. There are even drain pipes in this platform to accommodate any water buildup. Last Wed to Thursday overnight the entire form was poured with concrete. The Blue foam boards are in place to fill the void in order to save weight.
You have to realize that underneath this platform is the Rockefeller Concourse. People walk around and you can sit down and eat in those common areas.
I have more to add in the way of some short videos I will post to my YouTube. Want to post some more pics of the inside of the Tiffany box tent that is surrounding the skating rink.
What amazes me most is that this exhibit is not permanent. All of this will be dismantled in the beginning of June. The Tiffany Box tent is related to another separate event that took place last Thursday eve. I will see if it is still there tomorrow.
