I recently started taking dance classes with my boyfriend and am having a lot of fun!!
I am of the rock n roll generation, where there were no 'dance steps', you just imbibed and moved as the music inspired you to. Like most people, I could fake my way thru a waltz if my partner knew what he was doing. But other than that, I have no clue, have always had to say "I can't dance." no one ever taught me (Dad's feet were horrible, I understand why I would not have been invited to have my feet on his).
Years ago my x said he would take dance classes with me but when I was ready to make an appt, he bailed on me, and refused to consider it again, so I let it drop, and wish I would have gone by myself instead.
Because I'm having a blast!! WE are having a blast (boyfriend is Into It, he also never learned any dances). We are going to Fred Astaire and I like the people and the methods. The group classes and parties are really helping to learn as we end up with different partners and almost always learn something from them. It's a great way to practice what we learn in private lessons.
While we are concentrating on Swing, we are learning basics of most major dance styles. We worked on spins most recently and so I am working to get over being dizzy. There was an "end the party" Merengue where I was spun the length of the floor and that was Some Fun!!! But I had to sit down for a bit.
Over the weekend I practiced my spins a lot as I'm trying very hard to not be dizzy, get my self pointed the right way and not trip over my feet. so far so good!!!
Is there anyone else finally learning to dance? If you are one that always wanted to, go for it. Fred Astaire may not be the low cost provider, but since they throw in so much more than the actual lessons that you pay for, it already seems to be well worth it, after just one private lesson and many opportunities to practice and learn more.
Extra bonus that it seems to help my sciatica vs hurt it.
