  • Looking for a new Car. How about the Subaru Outback 2014

My first choice is the new 2014 Outback Premium 2.5liter engine. Does anyone have any experience with Subaru's.

Please share both good and bad.

By the way I would actually prefer the Forester, but DW wants the Outback. Like a good hubby I will let her win.

    Thanks

I've had 4 of them (all new) going as far back as when they advertised being inexpensive and built to stay that way. My last was a 1986 and then they got to be too expensive and built to stay that way. Not bad cars, but not good enough for the money IMHO. I think I paid $ 3,300 for my first new one in 1976. Get a Honda instead.

I bought a new 2012 Outback (my first) and really like it. We went to Colorado last year and saw them everywhere. Didn't see as many Foresters. I guess both are good on snowy, mountain roads.

My wife drives a 2008 Legacy. She's reported several times in the winter driving up a particularly tough access from I-495 to I-290 watching other cars spin off to the left or right while she just aims and goes. We are grateful for the good handling.

Memories. I adored my little Subaru XT back in the 80s. My first stick. Never worried about getting through anything and it could get out of it's own way pretty impressively for a 4 cylinder back in the day. When DS was pending I sold it to a sister of a friend who drove it many, many miles and years more.

DS currently drives an older Imprezza that we bought from a friend's mom. Very good in snow but not so great on mileage. I gather that isn't the high point on AWD vehicles.

Put in a factory order for a 14 Outback with a moonroof. Let DW pick the color. They call it Tungsten, I call it silver. Now I just sit and wait for about 6 weeks. Never did a factory order for a brand new model. Must clean out the current car for trade or sell.

Last time I did a factory order for a Subaru, they later told the ship it was on sank (yeah, right). I also have ordered a new Dodge, which they never placed after a couple of months. Car dealers are strange. Hope you got a good one.

I'm pretty sure billymach4's Outback will come from the Lafayette, IN assembly plant. So, hopefully, its boat won't sink.

I hope you enjoy the Outback.

Isn’t the Subaru port for the USA in Seattle?

DW just went to get a new-to-her car, a restored 1989 Ford Festiva hatchback that gets 38 MPG. It was coming from Nashville, and she met the driver halfway.

But the car did not survive the trip, so it is limping back to Nashville.

We bought our 4th Subaru - an Outback SW - in 1999. Still have it. Great car. Great snow and ice car. No major repairs in any of the Subarus we have owned. Bad things? Price, I guess. As for the Honda - our friend's daughter and husband bought an AWD Honda van. A couple of winters ago I had to go pick up them and their two children and take them to her mother's for Christmas dinner because the Honda couldn't make in on their icy roads. Their comment after the ride ride - other than the traction - was that y'know, this Outback almost has the same amount of room as our Honda van. I've always thought the Hondas were way too expensive for what you got, but to each his own. Just saying!

                            As an update here....

I ordered a '14 Outback from the factory. Took delivery in October!

It is a great automobile for the money! Drives like butter! Handles great! Great performance for a 4 cyl engine. We are very happy with this decision!

Need to think about a driving vacation next year in my Subaru!
