  • why we hate staying in hotels

we thought we would stay overnight in madison, WI and see the sights.
we checked into the hotel and found it pretty noisy.
we could hear kids, dogs, etc. as we walked down the hall.
every time someone opened and closed a door, the room shook.

then about two in the morning, someone came in in the room next door. the door slammed at least 5 times, and the shouting began. Then more slamming, then the F bomb over and over. Then more slamming, shouting, now moaning. After a half hour I called the desk, and I wasn't the first to call. it went on for another hour and a half. We could hear things breaking, being thrown, glass breaking, sounded as if it were in our room. Then more moaning, the F bomb over and over, two more calls to front desk. Finally police sirens, an arrest for domestic abuse, and a little bit of sleep til all the door slamming started in the morning again.

I used to be a road warrior. One time on the road, there was lots of "moaning" and crying out of names going on in the room next door.

I checked out the next morning and the front desk asked me if I enjoyed my stay. I said it was fine except for the honeymoon couple next door.

They asked me, "What honeymoon couple?"

The lady was in there by HERSELF! They mentioned that she was crazy upon check in and gave them nothing but problems. I thought it was pretty damn funny and added it to my list of Road Tales.

OTOH, a good thing about hotels is when you don't stay in them, they don't charge you.

You need to stay in a better class of hotel.

Yes...to be fair, there's no reason that the same thing couldn't have happened in a timeshare.

But it usually doesn't since you almost always have a living room in between the bedrooms of adjoining units.

We like a 2 bedroom condo for just the 2 of us, so that there is a living room between the snorer and the spouse!

I hear ya. For DW, a night with me is as bad as popping two No-Doz.
“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

                  “You shouldn't wear that body.”

In all honesty, my personal preference is staying in my RV in a private RV park. These private parks have a very high percentage of the older age group, and for the most part, are tucked in not much after 9PM. You have your own walls will open spaces in between, and unless you bring them yourself, no bed bugs!

Not pleased with lack of appropriate response you endured!! All these people calling, nothing happens??!?!

A few years back I was at a conference and staying at The Ritz, a fine fine hotel, better than I would pop for on my own dime.

All was peaceful and beautiful and comfortable.

Until 4 am when the door-slamming golfers all got set to go.

Door slamming is my # 1 Pet Peeve. PEOPLE ARE SLEEPING you inconsiderate jerks!!!

No, I did not Get Revenge at midnight with my own door slamming, I Am Considerate.

Sure would be nice if all hotel room doors had the gentle close deal on them so that we wouldn't have to be at the mercy of the jerks.

But at least I have yet to experience the crazy goings-on next door.

it was a good hotel, it wasn't the class of the hotel that was the problem, although i was surprised at pet friendly and they didn't keep those with dogs away from those without as it was big.
