  • How old is the oldest healthy person you know?

Tonight I went to a gathering at friends' apt in the neighborhood. We only knew the hosts and one other friend, among 40 or so guests. I ended up sitting next to a woman and her father - he looked to be about my dad's age, though my dad wouldn't venture out to a big social thing these days... and I learned that this lovely man is 103!!! Lives on his own! In Manhattan, where I think it may actually be easier, but still... it was inspiring.

Currently, I don't know anyone over 90, but my aunt was 101 and still living alone and functioning just fine.

A friend's mum is 93. She volunteers regularly at the seniors center.

My SIL's dad will be 98 in a few months. He maintains his own home, walks 2 miles every day, belongs to Extreme Fitness, a camera club, and a card group. He is active in his church and volunteers by driving the "old people" (his words, not mine ) to doctors' appointments, etc.. He makes his own wine and whips up some pretty amazing date squares. This man is phenomenal!

My grandfather lived to be 100 & 13 days.....He was very healthy right up until the end. He fell down a flight of stairs, and that's actually what killed him.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

I know several people in early nineties. Some get around, do lots, but can't say they are really healthy. One lady moved from our subdivision, then moved back when she couldn't find anyone to share a cocktail with. She was 90.

We have a woman here who is 102. She is a cougar since her boyfriend is only 97. They go to ballroom dancing every week and have a ball. They both go to the gym and are active in several clubs. I saw her in the drugstore awhile back and she was looking at batteries. When I came back she was kneeling on the floor looking at the bottom shelf. I was going to offer a hand to help her up but she just popped up off the floor. I can't do it that easily and I'm 37 yrs younger!

I thought you were going to say she was in the drugstore buying condoms.

I had one grandfather who lived until 99 and his aunt lived until 102! That grandfather was spry as a spring chicken even at 88, but then he had a stroke and his last 11 years were tough with the limited mobility, but he was still sharp as a tack!

I have an uncle who is 93. I remember him for for maybe 35 years and really can't tell that he changed a bit at all.
He is very active, lives by himself, and is always busy with various things.
Sometimes I think that age counter just got stuck on him. :-)

The oldest person I know is or will be 97 this year. He is a person around the corner from us. We know four in our or next the street over and all are ten years apart from each other and my husband is one of them but he is not the youngest of the four so in between and you can guess. . The 96 or 97 year old man is still very sharp and still plays golf but gave up driving recently, I heard. All are men!

I must admit to having had other thoughts about where you might be going with the batteries...

None of those thoughts entered my mind but then I knew she was looking at hearing aid batteries!
