I don't generally do anything for Halloween but this year am involved with a dance studio and they are having an H party with prize for creativity. I could use as many free lessons as I can get so trying to think of something easy to put together that doesn't restrict movement and isn't so much of A Thinker that I can't possibly win.

How about a chef? You get a puffy chef's hat and pouf it a little with newspapers, and then wear a white apron or chef's jacket over a white shirt and black pants. Then you generously pat flour all over your face and hair and pants and carry a rolling pin or whatever strikes you as amusing about chefs. It doesn't seem all that clever, but I've seen this costume win at a Halloween party!

Christmas tree. Green leggings/top, and unbreakable ornaments. When I did it I wrapped myself in lights and plugged in a long extension cord - not sure if your dance requirement works for that, but you can improvise...

You can find inexpensive battery operated lights these days. That might be easier.

I did this once and one 1st prize at a night club. Let me tell you, I am no seamstress either. I have issues with buttons. The sewing below was nothing more than a loop and a knot to hold stuff in place.
Body: Long night gown that I sewed fake green garland to. Added battery back string lights. The battery pack is smaller than a cigarette pack. This was 15 years ago, I'm sure you could easily find a smaller light pack with LED now. Added some gold garland and cheap plastic ornament balls.
Head: Just a headband that I affixed a big star to.
Legs: Brown tights.
Feet: Tissue boxes that I cut out the bottom and stuck my foot through the top slit. Wrapped these with wrapping paper, ribbon and bows.
