  • Key Ring--new app to keep store loyalty cards straight

We're always going on vacation and having to get new loyalty cards for whatever the local grocery stores are.

I just installed an app called Key Ring. You snap a picture of the bar code on your loyalty cards, and Key Ring keeps everything loaded so that when you go to a store, you can generate a picture of your loyalty bar code on your phone. Then the cashier can scan it. Bottom line: you don't need to drag all those cards around! I loaded a bunch of cards on today. Haven't tried it in a store yet, but I'm hoping it will work!

I even loaded my library card on--I really hope that works, bc we try to keep all of our library loans on one card...but you can only pick up reserved books if you have the card on you. I hope I can sweet-talk them into taking my Key Ring version of the card.

Been using it since it first came out. Very handy and keeps all the trash off my keys. One thing to note is if you have a screen protector on your phone, the scanner more often than not can't read the bar code.

                Cheers

The library card worked! They couldn't scan it, but they accepted my husband's number and typed it in manually. In the past they wouldn't do that if I didn't have his actual card. Guess the bar code on the phone makes it look official!

I finally ditched most of my key chain things. I found most stores at least in this area will look up the rewards card with my phone number.

We found that A&P and all of its related stores around here seem to have unlinked the records--we used to just give our phone number there, but suddenly they stopped having any record of us. It's just a pain in the neck to go through all of our "possible" phone numbers--we used to have two numbers, and now of course we have cells, and then for a while we had a different number, and NONE of them were turning up in A&P's records.

Also, we were just on vacation and we went to Foodtown, and not only would they not look up our phone number, they did not have a store card and when I started to ask the woman behind me in line if I could use her card, the manager snapped at me that card sharing was not allowed. So I had to fill out a form to get my three items.

Some stores are very accommodating--Walgreen's just assumes that you don't have your card and has you enter your phone number on a keypad. Other stores, not so much.
